Angela Sulai Kaeser shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Angela Sulai, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Its hard to choose between energy and integrity. Energy as an Energy healer is everything to me and I definitely evaluate someone’s energy to define what access they get to me. And on the other hand integrity is a core value for me and will ultimately be the ‘make or break’ factor of who I surround myself with.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’ve always been driven by a passion for beauty, both inside and out, which has guided my entrepreneurship journey. With over 20 years as a makeup artist in the print industry, I not only co-create stunning images but also empower the women who sit in my chair to feel confident and beautiful. This experience emphasizes the transformative power of beauty and self-expression
My journey extends into my work as a Reiki and Somatic healer, where I focus on supporting women of color in their healing journeys. I create a safe space for them, fostering trust and empowerment as they learn to connect with their inner selves. Mindfulness, meditation, energy, and beauty play vital roles in my life, forming a holistic approach to well-being.
In seeking a creative and therapeutic outlet, I found ceramics. I started crafting and selling unique handbuilt Reiki infused pieces and sculptures that not only bring beauty but also positive energy into people’s homes. Sulai Ceramics, is more than decor, it’s an invitation to slow down and cultivate nurturing environments that support self-care and spiritual practices. This journey has allowed me to pursue my purpose while making a meaningful impact in the lives of my customers.
It’s also my quiet rebellion against mass production, an honoring of craft, connection and intention and a platform to shift narratives about what’s possible when we center heart, heritage, and honesty in what we create.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Its often not only one thing that breaks a bond but a series of things. We are complex beings with complex stories, believes and lives, that make us see and navigate situations sometimes very different from the people closest to us. Which isn’t a problem as long as we are both willing to hear and see the other, feel safe and decide to return back into the room together. Because in conflict there is also a great opportunity for growth. So in short, lack of empathy, communication, care and consideration will break the bond. But if both are willing to grow together, the probably most important step in conflict resolution in my opinion is not only to listen, acknowledge and apologize (where needed) but to actually put efforts into repair. Is it easy? nope! but chances are it can evolve into a much stronger bond.
I believe ideally thats the threat of life, that we are constantly evolving, as individuals, in relationships, partnership,
at work, in our craft and as Artists.
When did you last change your mind about something important?
For a long time I felt like I was an open book, I love going deep and enjoy vulnerable shares. I worked hard to feel confident to use my voice, speak my truth from my lived experience and perspective in hopes to create more safe spaces, more connection and community and opportunities for us all to learn from each other, care for eachother and rise together. Unfortunately in recent years I’ve seen that a lot of people – which in today’s world is no surprise – don’t have the capacity, are too overwhelmed or ‘too busy’ to hear, hold depth and be curious about opposing opinions nor willing to put effort into building, nourishing and repairing meaningful connections. And with that sadly I have to evaluate a lot more careful how and where it’s safe to use my voice, who can actually hear me and where care, consideration and inconvenience is reciprocated.
Evolution and technology that once made connecting easier is now dividing us more, overstimulating our systems, encourages independence into isolation and slowly stripping us of our human nature, that we are tribal beings with a core need of belonging.
Art has not only given me an outlet and a new way of connection, its also brought up a deeper desire to find ways to express my voice through art.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I believe those closest to me know how much I value integrity, respect, kindness and honesty. It doesn’t matter if in personal or work relationships. It’s all connected, cause if your out of integrity, you are also dishonest and aren’t respecting others and yourself. Speaking honestly might not always be comfortable, but if you’re respectful and considerate about it, it is an act of kindness.
These values to me really define character and are foundational for a good, trusting and healthy relationship, again personal and work related. At the end of the day how you show up in one place is ultimately how you show up everywhere including for yourself. Though I don’t believe aiming for perfection is the goal, but if we all can lead with our hearts and spread more kindness as our contribution to this earthly experience, we’d all benefit.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
That I don’t really care about legacy. When it comes to my art and work, I deeply hope it touches people positively in the the now. And same with who I am as a person, I hope my presence affects people in a good way and maybe even leaves them better now. But once I’m gone, I’m gone. I think knowing my lineage ends with me and barely being connected to my lineage, there are no thoughts of what I leave behind or pass on. And yes there is grief in that awareness and at the same time there’s also no (subconscious) pressure. I try my best now while I’m here and focus on making the world a better place in my immediate circle. Do I wish it has a ripple effect, absolutely! but that is out of my control and I’m not attached to that.
