We’re looking forward to introducing you to Marisol Echegoyen. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Marisol, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I’m chasing growth and meaning. If I stopped my life would get boring.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a Berklee College of Music graduate that is currently working as an investigations analyst in fraud prevention. However, I also teach vocal lessons and perform with a salsa group. My career has not been traditional, but music has always been there. Right now, I’m focused on creating opportunities that will help me grow as an artist.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My mother has taught me the most. She is a medical doctor and university professor who continues to attend conferences and take diverse professional courses to stay updated in the medical field and give the best to her students. She is also constantly doing scientific research in dance medicine. She does all this while still working. Seeing her enthusiasm to be the best in her field has shown me that when you stay committed to learning work feels like a breeze.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I think the fear that I am not going to be the best has held me back from taking more opportunities, but I work on my confidence daily. Thankfully, I have a great support system that is there for me.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
In Mexican culture, family is everything. I protect the value of being present for my family, no matter how demanding life becomes.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’ve never done what I was told to do. I believe I was born to help people and whether it is though music or fraud prevention, that purpose stays the same.
