Check out Jennica Abrams’ Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennica Abrams.

Jennica, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I never really considered myself to be creative or a photographer of any kind but I took a black and white film photography class in high school on a whim and for my first assignment, my teacher was sort of flipping out about my photos, complimenting them a lot and all this stuff. I was just kind of thinking “Sure I guess I could do this from now on.”

I was 15 then, and when I was 18 I worked at this awful café right out of high school and the experience left such a bad taste in my mouth and it made me realize I didn’t want to do anything for money that wasn’t photography related ever again, and almost 10 years later I still haven’t. I

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I mostly do photography and I dabble in video as well as painting, drawing, and mixed media when I’m inspired. I don’t really have anything profound as to what inspires me and what the message about my art is – I mostly just want to keep myself from being bored with doing trite art and also pay my bills with it. I’m always taking photos though- it actually makes me a bit anxious when I’m somewhere and I can’t have my camera or can’t take photos for some other reason. I’d call it a passion but it’s much closer to being a compulsion at this point.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Success is a very fluid term for me. Every time I set a goal and meet it, it still doesn’t feel like enough or any different really. My goal is just to be able to live off of my work without ever worrying about money, but it’s an expensive career path and I also have a lot of anxiety so it’s hard to say if I’ll ever not worry.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I always update my Tumblr, Instagram, and Facebook page with photos a few times a week if not every day. I also show/sell prints in art shows from time to time. To support my work, I’m always taking donations haha, but the best way is to buy a print or book me for a session. Instagram is a good way of contacting me and I’ll be announcing my online store opening in the next month.
