Today we’d like to introduce you to Indigo Abell.
Hi Indigo, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey really began with purpose, passion, and personal experience. I started my business, IndiGrow, in 2021 with a vision to create a hair growth oil that promotes healthy hair and confidence. What began as an idea quickly turned into a brand that represents not just hair care, but self-love, consistency, and empowerment.
At the same time, my life as a mother deeply shaped my path. My daughter being diagnosed with autism opened my eyes to the gaps in understanding, representation, and support for children like her and families like ours. That experience pushed me to step into advocacy not just for her, but for a community that deserves to be seen, heard, and supported.
I channeled that passion into education, earning a Master’s in Education with a focus in Behavioral Analysis and a Master’s in Social Work so I could better serve and advocate for families navigating similar journeys. Along the way, I also became a children’s book author, creating stories that promote inclusion, confidence, and self-love for children of all abilities. My books are inspired by real-life experiences and are meant to help children feel understood and celebrated.
Today, I stand at the intersection of entrepreneurship, advocacy, and storytelling. Whether I’m growing IndiGrow, creating effective hair care solutions, writing books, or supporting families, everything I do is rooted in creating impact, spreading awareness, and leaving a meaningful legacy for my daughter and others like her.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Balancing being a mom, a wife, a student, an entrepreneur, and an author has come with its fair share of challenges. There were times I felt stretched thin, trying to show up fully in every role while also pouring into my business and my purpose.
Building IndiGrow from the ground up required consistency, patience, and resilienceespecially during moments when growth felt slow or overwhelming. At the same time, pursuing two master’s degrees while raising my children meant long nights, sacrifices, and learning how to manage my time in a way that honored both my family and my goals.
Motherhood, especially raising a child with autism, brought its own unique challenges. Navigating therapies, advocating in different spaces, and making sure my daughter felt supported and understood sometimes felt like a full-time job on its own. There were moments of doubt, exhaustion, and questioning if I could truly do it all.
But those struggles shaped me. They taught me discipline, strength, and how to keep going even when things felt hard. I’ve learned that the journey doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful, and every challenge has played a role in getting me to where I am today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
m an entrepreneur, author, and advocate, and I specialize in creating work that blends purpose with impact. As the founder of IndiGrow, I focus on hair growth solutions that promote healthy hair while encouraging women to embrace their natural beauty and stay consistent in their self-care routines.
As a children’s book author, I create stories that highlight inclusion and representation, especially for children with autism and developmental differences. My work is rooted in making sure every child feels valued, confident, and seen.
I’m also deeply involved in advocacy. With my background in Behavioral Analysis and Social Work, I use both my education and lived experience to support families navigating autism, whether through content, storytelling, or future resources I’m building. Another thing I am working on is my resource hub, Ausome Parent Plug. It is a safe, supportive resource hub designed to empower parents of children on the autism spectrum with the tools, knowledge, and community they need to thrive not just survive.
What I’m most proud of is turning my personal journey into purpose-driven work that impacts others. I’ve been able to build a brand, write books, and advocate all while raising my family and that’s something I don’t take lightly.
What sets me apart is my authenticity. Everything I create comes from real-life experience. I’m not just building a business or telling stories I’m living it every day. That connection and genuine passion are what allow me to truly resonate with the people I serve.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is dressing up and getting to be anything I wanted to be. My mom would always play along with me in full character, no matter how big my imagination got. In those moments, she never made it feel like “pretend” she made it feel possible.
She always reminded me that I could be anything I wanted to be, and she truly instilled that confidence in me at a young age. Knowing she would always support me along the way gave me a strong sense of security and belief in myself that I still carry today.
Even now, at 31, she still shows up for me in the same way encouraging me, supporting my dreams, and reminding me of who I am when I need it most. That foundation is a big part of who I’ve become as a mother, entrepreneur, and advocate today.
