Check Out Kimberly Gomez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Gomez.

Hi Kimberly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a photographer since 2013 but would only do photography on the weekends as a side hustle in addition to my regular 9-5 weekday job. In my head, photography was a hobby and not an actual career. Over the years, I had built up enough of a clientele that this “side hustle” was becoming overwhelming. By 2022, I was fed up with working seemingly dead-end office jobs. I decided to take a leap of faith and start my own photography business. It was a “now or never” kind of moment. It was definitely scary but so worth it. It is a lot of hard work being the sole employee of my own business but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a creative and more easygoing person, the most challenging part of this journey has been the business side of photography. The social aspect such as interacting with clients and planning for photo sessions and editing photos is a breeze. But small business taxes, expense reports, and legal contracts? Definitely had so much to learn in that area and continuing to learn.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a lifestyle and wedding photographer serving the Southern California region. Lifestyle photography includes photographing family, maternity, newborn, and grad portrait sessions. I’m most proud of the relationships I build with my clients. I’m not a photographer who is solely in the business for financial gain or even for beautiful photos. I genuinely feel privileged to be able to capture memories for my clients that they will cherish forever. Whether it’s new parents cherishing their first child or Father Daughter dance photos at a wedding.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people might not know that I actually have a bachelor’s degree in Visual Journalism and did not just decide to be a self-taught photographer.
