Meet Steven Moreno of MY Prints

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Moreno.

Hi Steven, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and from an early age I was always drawn to architecture, engineering, and anything creative and hands-on. Right after high school, I jumped straight into work, starting in packaging design for a baby bedding company. It was there that I first encountered digital fabric printing, and it completely captured me. I’ve always loved figuring out how things work—whether it was car engines, design, or construction—so seeing artwork printed directly onto fabric felt like a complete game-changer. That led me to a fabric printing company, where I learned large-format printers, especially Mimaki machines, inside and out, while also gaining a deeper understanding of fabrics, inks, and the different printing methods used across the industry.

Our story really became about two paths converging. Carol immigrated from South Korea as a child, grew up in Washington, and followed her own path into fashion design and print development. She worked with major names in manufacturing, helping build print departments from the ground up and leading print development along the way. Carol and I first met when she was a client and I was printing her designs. Over time, that working relationship turned into a strong friendship, and as we both reached a point where we had grown as much as we could in our respective roles, it became clear that the next step was to build something together.

In 2011, we co-founded MY Prints, combining my technical obsession with Carol’s fashion expertise and print design background. One of our first major projects was printing capes for Marvel’s Thor, and from there the business continued to grow. Over the years, we’ve watched technology evolve and expanded right along with it—from reactive and dye sublimation printing to a much wider range of methods and materials. Today, 15 years later, we’ve printed for blockbuster films, theme parks, fashion, events, and small independent creators alike. At the core of it all, what still drives us is the same thing that sparked this journey in the beginning: the excitement of taking someone’s vision and making it real.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely been a journey of ups and downs. From the start, Carol and I worked hard to build trust one project at a time. When international manufacturers began offering free sampling, we felt that shift, and some long-term clients started moving initial runs offshore. Hollywood, too, is never predictable. We faced the pandemic pause, strikes that halted productions, and periods when budgets shrank.

But through all of those challenges, we found ways to adapt. We didn’t change the heart of what we do—we leaned further into our flexibility. We had always balanced big productions with smaller bespoke projects, but during those tougher periods, that range became even more important. We also broadened our capabilities by adding machines that allowed us to work with natural fibers, vinyl, wallpaper, and even T-shirts.

Those struggles taught us that resilience and creativity go hand in hand. They pushed us not to change direction, but to grow stronger, more versatile, and more intentional in how we serve our clients today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about MY Prints?
At MY Prints, we see ourselves as storytellers through textiles. Based in LA’s Arts District, we specialize in bringing designs to life for everyone from blockbuster films and immersive theme parks to budding entrepreneurs and independent creatives. From superhero capes to wedding décor, we’ve had the opportunity to work on an incredibly wide range of projects.

What sets us apart is our collaborative approach and versatility. We work closely with our clients, whether it’s a small designer creating custom pillows or a major studio developing costumes for the screen. Over the years, we’ve expanded our capabilities beyond synthetic fabrics to include natural fibers, vinyl, wallpaper, and T-shirts, which allows us to serve an even broader range of creative needs.

We’re especially proud that our work has appeared at the Met Gala, on a red carpet premiere worn by Margot Robbie, and even in one of Carol’s designs worn by Mariah Carey. But just as important to us is the fact that, after 15 years, we’re still as hands-on and passionate about every project, big or small. More than anything, we want readers to know that if they have a vision, we’re here to help bring it to life beautifully, professionally, and with heart.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I don’t rely heavily on apps, books, or podcasts. My greatest inspiration comes from my partner of 15 years—Carol, who started as a client and is now my wife—as well as from my parents. But more than anything, what fuels me is my genuine love for the craft itself.

Even after 20 years, I still tear up with joy when I see our work out in the world, whether it’s on a blockbuster screen or on a character in a theme park. That emotional connection is what drives me every day. Knowing that something we created becomes part of someone else’s story—whether on screen or in a personal moment—pushes me to always do my best. When you love what you do that deeply, that becomes the greatest resource of all.
