Rising Stars: Meet Bijan Davis of INGLEWOOD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bijan Davis.

Hi Bijan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Bijan and I go by Nfnty94 for production and engineering. I’m born and raised in Inglewood, Ca. I’ve started my music journey in 2012 just as I was graduation high school. I’ve always felt like I had a keen ear for sounds and compositions so when I graduated I immediately signed myself up at The Los Angeles Recording School. I then graduated with my degree in audio engineering in 2015. It was not an easy road dealing with school work and family life at the time I was homeless during my last 3 months of school but I stayed focused and still graduated. Two months after that I got my first start interning at 1500 or Nothin’s studio in Inglewood. Since then I’ve had the pleasure of working out of multiple studios in Los Angeles and making music my full time career. This year I won my first Grammy Award for production on Durand Bernarr’s “Bloom” album for Best Progressive R&B album. I’ve also done production/engineering work for artists like T.I., Ashanti, Dom Kennedy, Trinidad James, Mario, Bobby Valentino, Eladio Carrion, Jay Rock and many more. I also do sound for live performances handling front of house, playback, and auto tune for artists like Polo G, Blxst, and D Smoke. One other skill i’ve picked up was scoring, soundtrack and sync work and some work includes Lee Daniels, Kenya Barris, and Jordan Peele’s latest film “HIM.” Now I am currently looking for hungry up and coming artists to curate new sounds all over the world. I love music of all kinds so I’m working on extending my palette and range of genres I create.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Everything has not been a smooth road in my life, but it has not been the worst. I have had struggles of growing up in gang infested areas in Inglewood and Los Angeles county. I have experienced living in foster care and group homes in parts of my life. I’ve also had battles with depression and suicidal thoughts at some points in my life and it’s not easy to deal with that but through prayer and figuring out how to love myself and surrounding myself with the right people I got through it. During the Last three months of my tenure at The Los Angeles Recording School I was homeless but I did not let that deter me. I was also still homeless while i first started my internship with 1500 or Nothin but I found my way out of that and I live a great life now.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an all around audio guru specializing in production, engineering, live sound, and film sound. I am most proud of my recent Grammy Award win. It took a lot of time and dedication to get to this point. The thing that sets me apart is my diligence to work hard despite whatever is going on in my life. It may be easy to be discouraged when you are tired, depressed, low on money, overwhelmed, and undermined but I continue to show up and show out in any event.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I am looking for new up and coming artists to develop and build a sound with. Along with production and engineering I am starting an artist development course for creatives that want to take it up a notch. I do also offer mentorships for producer/engineers and currently working on training courses as well. I was featured on Sertato’s and Tec Lemiert’s Audio Affect Series Beat Tape Vol. 1. Since then I have been helping mentor and teach at their masterclasses as I once attended. I’ve also been in the works of helping develop and promote some of their production software and gear.
