Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Simon.
Hi Amanda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started in the beauty industry 20 years ago as a makeup artist for the Australian brand Napoleon Perdis when they expanded into the United States. That experience opened the door to everything for me. I was immersed in artistry, education, and client connection from the very beginning, and it laid the foundation for the career I’ve built today.
Over the next decade, I worked with nearly every major makeup line, constantly learning and refining my skills. But it wasn’t until 2010, when I joined Benefit Cosmetics, that I truly fell in love with brows. There was something transformative about shaping brows — the way such a small detail could completely change how someone sees themselves. I went on to manage the Montana Avenue boutique for seven years, where I not only built an incredible clientele but also discovered how much I loved mentoring and leading a team.
In 2017, I stepped away from Benefit and moved into salon operations for several different beauty companies. I learned so much from being on the business side of things, but when I had my daughter in 2021, everything shifted. I knew I didn’t want to return to the pace and pressure of management. I wanted balance. I wanted flexibility. I wanted to build something that allowed me to be present for my family while still doing what I love.
In January 2023, I returned to artistry with Senna, and when the company unexpectedly closed the Tarzana location at the beginning of this year, I was faced with a decision. My husband had been encouraging me for years to open my own business, but I’ve always been someone who values stability. Taking that leap felt scary. This time, though, there was no hesitation. I trusted that the loyal clientele I had built over the past decade would follow me — and they did.
What I didn’t expect was how many new clients would find me along the way. That has been such a blessing.
At the heart of it all, I simply love what I do. I love building relationships. I love creating a space where women feel comfortable, confident, and taken care of. And I love seeing how something as simple as beautiful brows can make someone stand a little taller when they walk out the door. My passion for this work is genuine — and I believe that shows in every client experience I create.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges in my career was choosing stability over risk. For years, I helped build and manage other brands, mentoring teams and cultivating loyal clients — but it was never my name on the door. I often wondered whether I was playing it safe because it felt secure. The idea of stepping out on my own was exciting, but it was also terrifying. I questioned whether clients were loyal to me or simply to the brand behind me.
Motherhood in 2021 shifted everything. It forced me to redefine what success looked like. I no longer wanted the long hours and pressure that came with management. I wanted balance. Letting go of that chapter wasn’t easy — I had tied so much of my identity to leadership and achievement. There was guilt, uncertainty, and a lot of internal recalibrating.
When Senna Tarzana unexpectedly closed at the beginning of this year, I was faced with a turning point. It was unsettling and uncertain, but it also removed the safety net I had been holding onto for years. For the first time, I chose faith over fear. Even with two decades of experience, starting my own business came with self-doubt — pricing my worth, marketing myself, and carrying the full responsibility of ownership. But every challenge strengthened my confidence.
Looking back, the struggles were necessary. They pushed me to trust myself, claim my value, and finally build something that reflects both my passion and my priorities.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a brow and makeup artist with over 20 years in the beauty industry, specializing in natural, precision brow shaping that enhances — never overpowers — a woman’s features. My work is intentional and customized; no two faces are the same, and I approach each client with that level of detail and expertise.
I’m known for creating polished, effortless brows and for building long-term loyalty. Many of my clients have followed me for over a decade, which is something I’m incredibly proud of. What sets me apart is the combination of experience and connection — I don’t just provide a service, I create results that elevate confidence. After years of building other brands, I’m proud to now stand fully behind my own.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is the relationships I’ve built over the years. Many of my clients have become like friends, and I genuinely look forward to our time together. Creating a space where women feel comfortable, heard, and taken care of means everything to me.
