Today we’d like to introduce you to Maher Haroun.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It sometimes feels like working in events is where I was always meant to land. Going through formal education, you’re faced with so many possibilities as to what your career and life can look like. I knew what spoke to me, the only problem is that it wasn’t one thing, it was a list. Interior design, graphic design, music, fashion, food. In my head, it always made sense that these all go together. It wasn’t until I dug deeper that events came along. It felt like the perfect opportunity, almost as if everything I love was all captured in one scenic snow globe.
Something like this might seemingly have a conventional route but frankly, it does not. You can go to school for business, for hospitality, or for a text book version of event planning but the highest level of education in the eyes of my peers and I: boots on the ground experience.
I’ve had the privilege of working under the industry’s top names. To be trusted and celebrated by those who I have always looked up to has been, and will always continue to be surreal. These individuals become your network once your work begins to swing just as hard. The favors you call in, the emergency calls you make, the recommendation you ask for. This is that crew.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Discovering yourself while being taught the ropes by your mentors lends to a level of subconscious mirroring. What your brand should represent, who your clients should be and what dynamic you should maintain with them. You pick up approaches that in hindsight, you could have interpreted in your own way. It’s only when you start trusting your voice that leading on your terms becomes the most successful path.
Finding the point of view that makes my work stand out has been a journey. One that actually feels tied to my own personal growth and confidence. The validation that comes with creating in a way that is so authentically you, that then attracts like minded clients and collaborators? Unlimited.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Today, I specialize in full-service planning and creative direction for couples who value refined design, thoughtful hospitality, and an impeccably executed guest experience. The process is highly tailored, from venue selection and vendor curation to aesthetic concepting, spatial planning, and full production management.
I believe that great event design can’t exist without a great guest experience. To navigate through an event, the visual fantasy is only palpable if all the senses are available to receive it. If your guests haven’t been made aware of where to move to next, or haven’t been offered a beverage, even the most fantastic event design will only hit on one level. The intangible is such a delicate thing.
Stylistically, my jam is irreverent yet texturally classic design. Nostalgia is the timeless vehicle that makes this balance make sense. Being referential in a way that continues the conversation, instead of repeating it is always the goal.
