Today we’d like to introduce you to April Bennett.
Hi April, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Soul’s Image Photography was born from one simple truth:
I see souls, not faces.
Before stepping behind the camera, I spent years living and working in New York and Italy as a fashion model, appearing in magazines and music videos ( downtown train by Rod Stewart)
while traveling the world. Being constantly surrounded by photography sparked a deep appreciation for storytelling through images, and I eventually began bringing a camera with me on shoots, capturing moments simply because I was drawn to them.
After moving to Arizona and stepping away from the fashion world, photography followed me. What began as a creative outlet—sometimes even trading photos for a yoga class or family session—quickly turned into something more. People connected with the images and started asking to hire me, and that’s when I realized this wasn’t just a hobby—it was my calling.
At Soul’s Image Photography, my work is rooted in authenticity and connection. When people feel truly seen, it shows in their photographs. I believe a beautiful soul always reveals itself—and my job is to capture it.
I currently work throughout Scottsdale, Arizona, Southern California, including Orange County and the Los Angeles beach communities, and I’m available for destination sessions by request.
Soul’s Image Photography isn’t about how you look.
It’s about who you are.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I first started it felt pretty smooth because of the use of social media it simplified the process of promotion and connecting with a vast audience globally. However, the emergence of AI technology has disrupted the traditional photography industry. While the convenience of AI-generated photos is undeniable, it lacks the personal touch and uniqueness that comes with a picture taken by a human being, and that aspect is indeed challenging.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have a reputation for capturing the beauty in everyone – people often comment that my photos make them look stunning. I excel in finding the perfect angles and lighting, but my true talent lies in making my subjects feel incredible in front of the camera, which is what I find most fulfilling about photography. Whether it’s boosting the confidence of a shy high school senior or helping a woman reclaim her self-assurance through a lifestyle photo shoot for online dating, I take pride in uplifting people during our sessions. Specializing in various types of photography such as headshots, lifestyle, boudoir beach, and family portraits, my focus is always on creating striking and meaningful images.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of the most cherished moments from my childhood is simply spending time with my mother. She exuded happiness, finding beauty in everyone and making us laugh with her humor, always bringing a smile to my face.
