Rising Stars: Meet Melissa Weiner of Sherman Oaks, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Weiner.

Hi Melissa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey began with a deep curiosity about media, storytelling, and the power of memorable experiences. After earning a B.A. in Film and Digital Media from UC Santa Cruz, I set out to build a career that blends entertainment, hospitality, and human connection.
Over the years, I’ve worked with some of the industry’s most iconic companies—including Disney, NBCUniversal, Google/YouTube, and TMZ—each one adding a new layer to my understanding of how people experience stories across platforms. From theme parks to production sets to celebrity tours, my career path has allowed me to explore both the operational and emotional sides of entertainment.
At Disney, I wore multiple hats in Guest Relations, Communications, and Learning & Development. Whether I was helping guests navigate the Disneyland Resort or welcoming new hires through Disney Traditions, I developed a deep appreciation for brand culture and delivering excellence.
When the pandemic hit, I transitioned into critical health and safety roles across productions with Disney and NBCUniversal, managing large-scale COVID testing logistics for high-profile sets.. These roles tested my ability to stay calm under pressure and strengthened my leadership, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
Most recently, I joined TMZ as a Tour Guide and Production Assistant—a role that has let me combine my love of pop culture, storytelling, and live guest engagement. Whether I’m guiding a tour through the streets of Hollywood or assisting behind the scenes, I’m energized by helping people feel connected to the entertainment world.
To deepen my expertise, I’m currently pursuing a Master of Science in Tourism, Hospitality, and Recreation Management at Cal State Northridge. My studies have given me valuable insight into tourism operations, leadership, and guest-centered business strategies, aligning perfectly with my professional experience and long-term goals.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The path hasn’t always been easy, especially navigating two industries—entertainment and tourism—that were deeply affected by the pandemic. Adapting to rapidly changing safety protocols, supporting large-scale productions under tight timelines, and balancing high-stakes responsibilities with personal wellness were real challenges.
There were also moments when managing full-time work while staying socially active or pursuing my education felt overwhelming. But each experience taught me how to manage stress, stay organized, and lead with a clear sense of purpose. I’ve learned to welcome discomfort as a sign of growth, and to trust myself even when the path forward isn’t fully clear.
Starting over in Studio City during a time of uncertainty was another defining shift. But that move reconnected me with community, creativity, and a renewed sense of direction.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work centers around creating experiences that are meaningful, people-focused, and memorable. Whether it’s guiding a guest through a theme park, coordinating behind-the-scenes logistics, or leading a live tour, I bring both strategic thinking and warmth to every role I take on.
At Disney, I helped set the tone for thousands of guest interactions while also facilitating onboarding and training for new Cast Members. At NBCUniversal, I was part of essential health and safety operations, managing processes that allowed productions to move forward safely during a global crisis. And at TMZ, I get to be on the front lines—interacting with guests from all over the world, sharing insights about the entertainment industry, and representing a brand known for energy and bold storytelling.
What sets me apart is my range and adaptability. I’m equally comfortable solving real-time problems in fast-paced environments as I am planning, coordinating, or leading teams. I thrive in roles that require a high level of professionalism and a personal touch, where the goal is to make someone’s experience smoother, more joyful, or more connected.
I’m proud of how my work touches people—whether through a one-on-one moment on a tour, a successful team training, or a day where everything behind the scenes ran exactly as planned.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as alignment between purpose, passion, and impact. It’s not just about reaching a title or milestone—it’s about doing work that reflects who I am and brings value to others.
Success, to me, is about showing up consistently, leading with integrity, and being part of something bigger than yourself. It’s about creating moments that matter—helping someone feel seen, smoothing out a tough day for a teammate, or guiding a guest through an unforgettable experience.
In every role I’ve held—from onboarding Cast Members to coordinating testing on production sets, to storytelling live on a tour—I’ve found fulfillment in helping people connect with something meaningful. That’s what drives me. I also believe success is shared. The most satisfying moments are the ones where I’ve helped a team reach a goal, mentored someone new, or contributed to a positive culture.
As I continue working and studying, I see success as a journey—one where I keep evolving, learning, and finding new ways to bring stories, people, and purpose together. My long-term goal is to merge my background in media with my passion for hospitality and tourism—building experiences that leave people feeling inspired, welcomed, and seen.
