Exploring Life & Business with Rhonda Yaffa of Woodland Hills Printing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Yaffa.

Hi Rhonda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My husband (Ira) was in printing and I worked an office job. Suddenly, my husband was laid off and we decided to purchase an existing print shop, which had been in business since the 1970s. We decided to take a leap of faith and bought Woodland Hills Instant Printing after 9/11. We then made it our own and changed the name to Woodland Hills Printing.

Since then, we turned the print shop into a family-owned union business, printing for some of the largest unions, political campaigns, local businesses and much more.

Our vision came to life and grew exponentially in the 25 years since we bought it. Now my daughter, Elana, is working with us and bringing new insight to the shop.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning a union print shop had not always been easy. We had went through the devastation of 9/11, which impacted our business because people were afraid to get out. Then during COVID-19, we were also affected and thought at one point we would have to close our doors, because nobody was running their business or going outside. Luckily during that time, we had some election campaigns incoming that kept our doors open, along with the PPP loan. We also made masks and sold them during that time, which even got the attention of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Woodland Hills Printing?
Woodland Hills Printing is a family-owned union print shop that has been open since the 1970s. We are a mom and pop shop, who specialize in business cards, brochures, stickers, flyers, t-shirts, foamcores, etc. You name it, we do it!

Our personal touch to printing really makes a difference as we are not a franchise / corporate shop. When we help you, we help from the heart and give our honest opinions about your work. We truly do care about quality and what we do. Passionate printers we are and will forever be that way.

We are very proud of printing for a number of campaigns and unions. One that truly stands out to us is when we printed for the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. We helped print t-shirts, buttons and picket signs. It was amazing seeing everyone march with our printed work including our union bug, and it was an honor printing for SAG-AFTRA and at the time, President Fran Drescher.

We want readers to know that we are always here to help you achieve the best printed results and care about our work. We are graphic designer and photographer friendly, we love being accurate on all prints.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For those who want to be printers, our biggest advice is to always be open to all types of printing and never be afraid to expand your horizons. Always take a chance and leap of faith. Every idea is a good idea and to keep on keeping on.

I wish I knew that you should never be afraid and always go for it. Never say no, because the chance is you can do it in some way or form.
