Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonia Hall.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Antonia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
From a young age, I was prone to adventuring. I’ve always loved reading and writing, I have been intrigued by people. I’d go out exploring, then I’d return home, fill journals with my thoughts and read voraciously. As an undergraduate in college, my focus on psychology, sociology, anthropology and religion were all a natural fit. It was a quest to better understand human behavior and beliefs, which has always been fascinating to me.
Prior to graduating, I became an elementary school teacher. But when I relocated from Norcal to Socal, I was offered a position in marketing and I found that the job utilized my psychology background in satisfying ways. Eventually, I went into the family business (my mom is a publicist) and started my own communications company, promoting informative and inspiring people and projects.
A few years ago I went back to graduate school and completed my Master’s in psychology, with a focus on women’s spirituality and sexuality. I knew that for some, the topic of sexuality has a certain stigma attached. It’s an important, inherent part of human nature and writing about it was an extension of my perpetual desire to teach, inform, uplift and empower.
My first book, The Ultimate Guide to a Multi-Orgasmic Life, was published in 2016. It has won three awards and my work has been included in magazines and online sources such as Cosmopolitan, Redbook, Reader’s Digest, MSN, Bravo TV, The Today Show and many others. It has opened my eyes to the fact that people want information in an accessible way and so, I launched my Sexy Little Guidebooks this year to meet that need.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has definitely had some challenges. Every major endeavor has challenges, and I knew that speaking openly about sexuality would not always be met with appreciative ears. It is a natural part of being alive; all of nature is innately sexual and making peace with this part of ourselves is incredibly empowering and fulfilling. When I hear critiques or have doors shut in my face, I take it as a sign that my work is needed and important. Because why should sex be so taboo when we all have it in common and it’s the way we were all created?
I’ve had potential PR clients balk at my sex books and articles. I’ve learned that the right people appreciate what I’m trying to do, and recognize the progress I’ve made in promoting my own work. This has helped me attract better partnerships in my business life.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Antonia Hall Communications offers public relations, social media, and marketing services for authors, filmmakers, politicians, scholars, philanthropists and other visionaries. I’m fortunate to promote inspiring change-makers that uplift and empower others.
I also write books and contribute to many magazines every week on the topics of sex, dating and relationships. I’ve been interviewed by radio shows around the globe, which is always fun. I’ve also appeared on television as a psychologist and sexpert.
I’m grateful to work with amazing people, whether I’m promoting client’s work and helping them build their platform or contributing to the discussion about human sexuality and relationships.
What were you like growing up?
As an only child in a single parent household, I’ve always been very independent. I balanced being outgoing with introversion and was insatiable inquisitive.
My mom was nomadic, and when I was five she moved us to Europe. During my formative years, we lived in Amsterdam, and I’m certain that played a part in my seeing sexuality as a natural part of being human. There’s far less shame around sexuality and the human body in The Netherlands.
Having a mother who was an entrepreneur was also a gift. She mirrored the ability to own and run a business on one’s own and the importance of a strong work ethic. I was putting together press kits before I was a teenager and by the age of thirteen, I had my own babysitting business. There was never any question that I could be what I wanted to be. How lucky is that?
