Check Out Lee Supercinski’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lee Supercinski.

Hi Lee, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in Texas in the 1980s, and dreamed about moving to California to make movies. With the support of my family, I made it to Los Angeles in 1991 to attend USC. I landed my first TV production job as a senior at USC and through a fellow student I found full-time work at a television production company after graduation. A few years into my career I worked on my first animated television series at HBO. That job led to Futurama, which has been the main focus of my career. As a fan of The Simpsons and other 1990s adult animated series it’s been a dream job. My advice, never be afraid to try something or ask someone for an opportunity. When you get the opportunity, work as hard as you possibly can to earn the next one.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, making a living in the arts is never a smooth journey… like everyone I’ve had down times in my career when work dried up. Most of the time I was able to weather it but one long stretch in particular forced some tough final decisions. Having support from one’s family is key.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a freelance Animation Producer. I am hired by Studios (Fox, Disney, Warner Bros.) to manage animated series and movies. I help the Studios put together a schedule and budget, hire an Animation studio, staff the Production Office, work hand-in-hand with the Show Runner or Director, supervise the Cast recording sessions, and see the show all the way through post-production. I’m very proud of being known for concise work and being a pleasure to work with.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
When I was a junior at USC, I bumped into a senior who had just graduated. I asked what his plans were, and he told me he was going to work full-time at production company where he had had an internship. I asked if I could take over his internship, and he got the boss to agree! That chance meeting in the hallway of USC set-up my career.
