Story & Lesson Highlights with Coach Dom Costa

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Coach Dom Costa. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Dom , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
One of the greatest things that I currently am a part of is I am one of the football coaches for San Pedro high school. Besides the actual coaching of football there’s a lot of the mental game that I coach. It is great to encourage young males and share some adult male lessons and help create the next generation of great young men!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Thanks to all my social networks and Google My Business page I pick up a variety of ScrapMetal’s in my local community to clean up my city and I recycle them. I get paid when I bring the metals in to the scrap yards and I use a big chunk of that money for the charities that I am a part of.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
Both of my parents taught me the value of hard work, and that it was the one thing that I could control as well as my effort and attention to detail!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing, to my younger self, it would be to not be afraid of rejection! All of the no’s that you get in life just lead you to the yes that you’re looking for. Don’t waste time worrying about other people‘s judgment! You are enough! Don’t worry about being told no. Your yes is waiting for you and don’t worry so much about rejection. All things will pass, rejection, surely sure will as well!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I really strive to be the same human being that the world sees in public at home. I can forget that sometimes. It is so much better to be kind everywhere!

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
My wish would be that when I’m gone that people remember that your dreams and goals are equal to your amount of focus, hustle, and grind you have! It worked for Coach and he always said it would work for you too! Now get to work kids!
