Meet Moti Gamburd of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Moti Gamburd.

Hi Moti, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Raya’s Paradise was established by Raya Gamburd who is a Registered Nurse (my mom), we came to the USA in 1998 and my mother’s license was not active in California. So my mother became a caregiver in an assisted living facility in Los Angeles. Once there she met someone who had small 6 bed facility in North Hollywood, when my mom went to see it, she fell in love with the business concepts and she said “If I can take care of 1 elderly, then I can take care of 6 elderly” and that is when Raya’s Paradise was born in 1991. my father became very ill and while my mom was taking care of him, I (while still a student at UCLA) was helping my mom to take care of Raya’s Paradise and I fell in love with the business. I took over the business in 2000 and my mom fully retired in 2005.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Running a business in California is NOT easy, and actually it is getting harder and harder with all the regulations. CA is very one sided State and it is always on the side of the employee even if the Employer did everything in their ability to comply. Another big obstacle was California Coastal Commission when I was obtaining my Coastal Development Permit (CDP) to build my new facility in San Clemente, I realized how unfair the system in CA is. These are just some of the obstacles that we had, COVID time was also a very hard time since labor force was diminished and we had to have some employees work around the clock to provide the care to our residents.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My name is Moti Gamburd and I am the CEO of Raya’s Paradise Residential Care Communities. I am known for providing top notch services and building top notch buildings for the seniors. I am very involved with the architects and interior designer team and I am VERY proud of my latest building that I completed in San Clemente in 2022 (Raya’s Paradise of San Clemente). It is a facility (community) that has all the needs for the elderly to be able to age in place (I highly encourage to pay a visit in person to appreciate the details). You can also visit our website for more details and photos at www.rayasparadise.com. Raya’s Paradise is known for high quality of care, high staffing ratios and staff training. We created our own curriculum to train the staff, it is very intense training and no other provider provides this.
