Stacy Soriano shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Stacy, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
My confidence, it’s taken me years to feel comfortable & confident in myself overall. It’s something I work on the daily.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Stacy I am a first generation Mexican-American photographer from Southern California.
Born in Torrance but raised in Moreno Valley, California. Studied photography at Riverside City College but have been taking photos since the 90s.
I specialize in photojournalism and like to bring out everything’s raw form through my eyes that then translates into images.
Currently freelancing anywhere my camera takes me. Planning to travel next year in and out of the country to connect with more subjects.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has molded me most has been the one I shared with my maternal grandfather.
Being so close to him even though we were 70 years apart really impacted me and gave me a glimpse into another world.
Learning from my abuelito’s stories which included hardships along with incredible accomplishments only gave me hope and strength to keep moving forward no matter what life threw at me.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Never change…
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That you need the newest equipment to take better photos.
Most of my gear is 8-10 years old, purchased refurbished and still have no issues with them.
You don’t need a mirrorless camera or thousands of dollars to start photography.
Just start.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m outside in nature.
