Meet Maggie Pezeshkian of Jawmatrix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Pezeshkian.

Hi Maggie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My path into chiropractic care didn’t begin with TMJ—it began on a volleyball court.
Years ago, I suffered a significant ankle sports injury while playing competitive volleyball. Like many athletes, I was told to expect a long recovery. Instead, a chiropractor helped me return to play in nearly half the expected time. That experience was transformative. I didn’t just heal faster—I understood, for the first time, what chiropractic adjustments and precise, movement-based care could do. In that moment, I knew: this is what I want to do. I fully believed I was going to become a sports chiropractor.
At the same time, I was already working in healthcare as a dental hygienist. I loved patient care and the precision of the work, but I felt drawn to something more holistic and dynamic—an approach that focused on the root causes of injury, injury prevention, and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal. I wanted a deeper understanding of how the body truly functions as an interconnected system. Chiropractic school felt like a natural next step, and I entered it with a clear vision centered on sports performance, injury recovery, and biomechanics.
But as my training deepened, so did my curiosity.
I began asking a broader question: Where do my skills and background create the most impact? That’s when patterns started to emerge. The deeper I studied anatomy, neurology, posture, and biomechanics, the more I noticed how frequently head, neck, and jaw issues overlapped. TMJ dysfunction rarely existed alone—it showed up alongside neck pain, headaches, postural imbalances, dizziness, and nervous system symptoms.
Suddenly, my dental background wasn’t separate from chiropractic—it was central.
I realized that very few providers truly understood the jaw within the context of the cervical spine and full-body mechanics. Even fewer had formal training or clinical experience in both worlds. That intersection—TMJ, head and neck mechanics, posture, and movement—was where my background uniquely positioned me to contribute something different.
Throughout this evolution, one person consistently encouraged me to lean into that uniqueness: my husband, Dr. McHaney. His support and insight helped me recognize that focusing on TMJ wasn’t a departure from sports chiropractic—it was an expansion of it. The jaw is part of the kinetic chain. It affects balance, breathing, neuromuscular control, and performance just as much as any ankle, knee, or shoulder.
As I moved into practice, another challenge became impossible to ignore: imaging limitations. Static X-rays and MRIs often failed to explain why patients—athletes and non-athletes alike—were in pain. Joints move, yet most diagnostics were frozen in time.
That frustration led me to Dynamic Digital Radiography (DDR), motion X-ray technology that allows us to observe joints in real time. For me, it was a full-circle moment—combining my passion for movement, sports mechanics, and objective data. Seeing abnormal motion patterns in the cervical spine and jaw validated what I had long suspected clinically.
That insight became the foundation for Jawmatrix, a practice built around motion-based diagnosis, objective evidence, and conservative, personalized care. Today, we are the only facility in California offering FDA-approved DDR for musculoskeletal and TMJ evaluation. But the technology is simply a tool—the real mission is clarity.
I now work at the intersection of sports biomechanics, TMJ dysfunction, posture, and advanced imaging. I collaborate with dentists, physicians, therapists, and attorneys, and I educate both patients and professionals on how interconnected the body truly is.
My journey taught me that specialization doesn’t mean narrowing your vision. Sometimes, it means recognizing where all your experiences converge. For me, that convergence happened at the jaw, the neck, and movement itself.
And that’s exactly where I’m meant to be.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No—this has not been a smooth road.
One of my biggest challenges was choosing a path without a clear blueprint. I entered chiropractic school planning to become a sports chiropractor, but as my training evolved, I realized my background uniquely positioned me to do the work I do today. That space was largely undefined, which meant fewer mentors and a lot of learning through trial and error.
I also faced skepticism. TMJ care sits between dentistry and chiropractic, and working across disciplines often meant explaining—and defending—why my approach made sense. On top of that, investing in advanced technology like Dynamic Digital Radiography required significant financial risk long before it was widely understood.
Building a practice rooted in objective data rather than shortcuts hasn’t always been easy, and stepping into leadership brought challenges no school prepares you for. There were moments of doubt and burnout, but the challenges shaped the work I’m most proud of today.

As you know, we’re big fans of Jawmatrix. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I founded Jawmatrix because I saw a consistent gap in healthcare: jaw pain, neck pain, headaches, and postural problems were being treated in pieces, instead of as one connected system.
What truly sets Jawmatrix apart is everything we do.
We don’t just treat TMJ. We integrate dental and chiropractic perspectives, advanced motion X-ray technology (Dynamic Digital Radiography), and a full-body assessment that looks at posture, balance, spinal alignment, and movement patterns. Very few centers evaluate the jaw within the context of the cervical spine, overall posture, and biomechanics—and even fewer can objectively measure all of it.
At Jawmatrix, every patient receives a comprehensive assessment, which may include:
TMJ and cervical spine evaluation
Real-time motion X-rays (DDR) when indicated
Postural analysis and balance assessment
Spinal curvature evaluation and correction when needed
Objective measurements to guide care and track progress
This integrated approach allows us to identify why symptoms exist, not just where they hurt. Jaw dysfunction often reflects deeper issues involving head position, spinal curves, neuromuscular control, and balance. If those drivers aren’t addressed, symptoms tend to persist or return. We also collaborate closely with a patient’s other healthcare providers, including dentists, physicians, physical therapists, and specialists, to ensure continuity of care and the best possible clinical outcome. Clear communication and shared clinical insight are central to how we practice.
What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is that Jawmatrix stands for precision, integration, and clarity. We don’t separate systems that are clearly connected. We don’t rely on assumptions. We educate our patients and collaborating providers with objective data they can understand and trust.
What I want readers to know is that Jawmatrix is not a typical clinic. It is a specialty center built around how the body truly works as a unit—combining dental insight, chiropractic biomechanics, advanced imaging, and corrective strategies into one cohesive model of care.
Our brand represents a higher standard: seeing more, measuring more, and treating with purpose.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
One of my biggest investments is continuing education. I consistently take advanced courses to deepen my knowledge in TMJ dysfunction, head and neck biomechanics, posture, spinal correction, and integrative medicine. I believe staying sharp clinically requires ongoing study, not relying on what you learned years ago. Many of these courses are interdisciplinary, which allows me to think beyond silos and apply concepts across dentistry, chiropractic, and movement science.
