Audra Milos shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Audra, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I got to work with Eric Roberts, this summer, on the set of a Tubi film. He was very kind and very professional. I hope to be remembered like that as an actor. I’m proud to have worked on so many Tubi and YouTube films and TV shows.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an actress seen on Hulu, Tubi, YouTube, and I’ve been seen in music videos for Billboard Hot 100 Grammy-winning singers.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
Me. I’ve worked 16-hour shifts for 6 days a week straight all while I was sick, homeless, being abused, during holidays, right after loved-ones died, even when coworkers were stealing from me, and while I was supposed to be at once-in-a-lifetime family events. Unless you have someone else handing you money for completely no-strings-attached free everyday, you really have to do it all by yourself. It’s hard, but I don’t have anybody giving me free money, so I make sure the job gets done.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell myself that my ability to celebrate others makes me beautiful inside as well as outside.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That ALL you need to get in a movie is talent, hard work, and to be easy to work with… which isn’t true anymore; these days, if you want a speaking role in an Oscar-winning movie seen in every theatre across the country for months, what you DO need is 30K+ instagram followers, perfect white fake teeth, someone who can introduce you to the director, and a $5K/month publicist. A lot of poor actors who’re very talented and trained can’t afford all that, and a lot of talented actors don’t even want to have to resort to all that in the first place. This business, nowadays anyway, is only like 10% merit/skills/talent-based. The most-talented actors I know aren’t world-famous household names being seen in Marvel movies. It SHOULD be about who is the most-talented actor, but it really comes down to who is more well-known to the public, cheap to insure, and also known to the industry’s higher-up circles.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m making funny video skits, posing for bikini modeling photo shoots, and also when I’m writing stand-up comedy jokes to practice at open-mic-nights in Hollywood. Practicing my artistic craft is peaceful to me. It really centers my mind and soul, honestly.
