We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kristeen Widmyer. Check out our conversation below.
Kristeen, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I completed the four main classes at the Academy of Magical Arts at the Magic Castle. I’ve been working on a part routine. It’s a lot more challenging than I expected but it’s so different from anything I’ve ever done.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kristeen Widmyer, the creative lead behind Kristeen LaBrot Events and now co-founder of KS Events & Design, my new collaboration with Sarah Pugh. We plan weddings together—Sarah is the logistics and production genius, and I run point on all things event design and creative direction.
I love taking a couple’s story and turning it into a visual experience that actually feels like them. That can mean anything from color palettes and mood boards to custom graphics, branded details, statement décor moments, and full design plans that guide the whole look and feel of the day.
Because I come from both the planning world and the graphic design world, I’m always thinking about how something looks and how it will actually work in real life. My goal is to make sure the design is beautiful, intentional, and executed seamlessly.
Lately, I’ve been expanding our design offerings—creating bespoke logos, signage suites, printed pieces, and full event identities so couples walk into their wedding with a clear, cohesive style from start to finish. If you love thoughtful details and a wedding with personality, that’s where I shine.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Honestly? My people-pleasing phase. It got me here, but it also had me saying yes to things I didn’t actually want to do. I’m letting go of that version of me who felt responsible for keeping everyone happy. I can care about people without carrying all their expectations.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of getting a bad review has held me back the most. For years, I let that worry shape my decisions. I’d say yes when I didn’t want to, over-deliver to the point of burnout, and smooth over things that didn’t sit right with me—all because I didn’t want someone to walk away unhappy. It kept me playing small and putting other people’s comfort ahead of my own instincts.
I’m finally learning to trust that doing what feels true to me will attract the right clients and the right energy, and that I don’t have to twist myself into knots to avoid someone else’s opinion.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I’m a Swiftie! Not for the fame, but for the way she shows up as a real human. She shares her highs and lows, stands up for herself, and keeps creating even when people pick her apart.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
I’ll regret not betting on myself. Whether it’s creatively, personally, or in my business, I don’t want to look back and realize I held back on things that could’ve made my life fuller and happier.
