Life & Work with Brooke Redell of Brentwood, Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Redell.

Hi Brooke, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in Solvang, California, and from the start I loved making people laugh and finding creative outlets — whether it was campaign posters for student elections or speeches that doubled as comedy sets. In college at Pepperdine, I leaned into both sides: running marketing for the student programming board and producing our sketch comedy show. Around the same time, I started a freelance design business, creating everything from wedding calligraphy to retail packaging. Now I’m at Walt Disney Studios in creative advertising, where I’ve worked on campaigns for films like Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Zootopia 2. And when I’m not at Disney, you’ll find me on stage — I’m in the Groundlings Lab Track and perform comedy all over LA, even making an appearance on Kill Tony. For me, the throughline has always been creativity and laughter — that’s what keeps me moving forward.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been smooth. Freelancing taught me early on that creativity is only half the job — the other half is learning how to run a business, set boundaries, and value my work. In comedy, there are nights when the jokes don’t land, and in advertising, the challenge is often balancing the input of many executives, which can sometimes pull focus away from the core creative message. But I’ve learned to approach those moments with the improv mindset of ‘Yes, and…’ — saying yes to the challenge, and then building on it to find a creative solution. That perspective has helped me turn setbacks into opportunities and keep moving forward.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Laughter is my driving force. Comedy isn’t just about telling jokes on stage — it’s the lens I bring to every project, whether I’m shaping a campaign at Disney or creating a character at the Groundlings. I see the world through humor, timing, and connection, and that perspective makes my work stand out. What I’m most proud of is keeping comedy at the center of my journey, listening closely to others and aiming to evoke something real in everyone I connect with. What sets me apart is that I don’t separate comedy from creativity; I use humor as a tool to cut through the noise, spark emotion, and make people feel something genuine.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
The best way to support me is to laugh with me. You can follow my comedy account @laughinwithbrooke for upcoming shows and new content — that’s where my true passion lives. If you’re looking for design work, from calligraphy to branding, check out @darlingletteringco, where I bring creativity from small hand made to large companies. And for everything else — my other projects, personalities, and experiments — you can find me at @brookeredell. Beyond that, the simplest way to collaborate is to show up: get your butts in the movie theaters and live comedy shows, because it’s more fun to experience stories together as a community. Whether it’s comedy, design, or creative campaigns, I thrive on connection, and I’d love to keep building those with anyone who wants to join in.
