Sani, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve been getting a lot of joy from exploring new places and new cultures. There’s something inspiring about discovering how people live, what they value, and the little details that make every place unique. It keeps me curious, gives me fresh perspectives, and honestly just makes me feel more connected to the world.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Sani Baladi, and I’m a composer who loves exploring how sound can shape a story. I’m most excited when I’m experimenting and trying new ideas, new textures, new approaches, and seeing where they lead. This year has brought a lot of interesting projects that challenged me in the best way.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I always thought that once you grow up, you have to stop being playful and take everything seriously. But the older I get, the more I realize the opposite is true. I still feel like a kid when I’m creating. That curiosity and playfulness turned out to be one of my biggest strengths, not something to ‘grow out of.’ So I no longer believe that adulthood means losing that childlike spark. If anything, I try to protect it.
Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
Yes. I feel it every time someone listens to my music. When people hear my work, they’re hearing me, my heart, my story, the things I can’t always say in words. Music is the way I speak the clearest. So whenever someone really listens, it feels like they’re truly listening to me.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
As a German, I feel obligated to say: punctuality. But in truth, the value I protect most is reliability, being someone people can count on. I’m still punctual though.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m definitely doing what I was born to do. I was told the opposite growing up. But the truth is, every time I tried to do anything else, it felt like I was working against myself. Music was the only thing that made sense. It’s the place where I feel the most alive, the most curious, the most myself. So even if the world tried to push me in other directions, I kept coming back to this. In the end, it wasn’t a choice, it was just who I am.
