An Inspired Chat with Dr. Lauren Guerra of Hollywood

Dr. Lauren Guerra shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Lauren , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes! I am actually looking for my next business opportunity so this question is perfect. I would absolutely hire me: I am organized, authentic and very hard working. I can see myself working as an author, podcaster, or modeling.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I grew up in the heart of Los Angeles, California and am of Guatemalan Ecuadorian descent and an active member of the Roman Catholic Church. I earned my doctorate in Systematic & Philosophical Theology from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley. I have taught at the University of California, Los Angeles in the César E. Chávez Department of Chicana/o Studies & Central American Studies. My goal is to serve as an advocate for the U.S. Latinx community through my work. I also host the “Gold Hoops & God” podcast which is available on all major platforms and on YouTube.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Studying abroad was one of the most formative experiences of my life. I will always have tremendous love for Madrid, Spain because it showed me a different way to live. European lifestyle is so much more laid back than US culture. I can’t wait to go back!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one thing to my younger self…I would say: Follow your dreams no matter how crazy those dreams may sound to others.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, I pride myself on being authentic and honest. I show the real me online.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am learning to listen to my inner voice and intuition far more these days! Trusting oneself is so important.
