Today we’d like to introduce you to Tam Gallardo.
Hi Tam , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started tattooing when I was 18, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I entered the tattoo world in a very self-taught way, driven by curiosity and the desire to create something meaningful for people. Over the years, I invested in seminars, collaborations, and training with artists I admired, which helped me refine my technique and develop my own voice.
Little by little, I realized that what moved me the most were the stories behind people’s pets. Their personalities, their colors, their expressions capturing all of that in micro-realism became my passion. Today I specialize in color micro-realism pet portraits, a style that allows me to honor the deep emotional connection people share with their animals.
My journey has taken me from Argentina to the United States, where I now work in Los Angeles and travel to tattoo conventions and events. I’ve dedicated more than a decade to this craft, constantly learning, evolving, and pushing my work to new levels of detail and emotion.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road definitely hasn’t been smooth. I started very young and without formal guidance, so I had to learn many things on my own technically, professionally, and emotionally. Being a woman in the tattoo industry also came with extra challenges, from proving myself in a male dominated environment to carving out space for my own artistic identity.
Immigrating to the United States added a new layer of difficulty. I had to rebuild my career from zero in a new country, far from my support system, while adapting to a completely different market. Every step required patience, sacrifice, and consistency.
But those challenges shaped me. They taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of believing in my work even when the path felt uncertain. Today, I see each struggle as part of what helped me become the artist I am now more focused, more intentional, and more connected to my purpose.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a tattoo artist specializing in color micro-realism, with a strong focus on pet portrait tattoos. My work is known for capturing the personality, emotion, and tiny details that make each animal unique from the texture of their fur to the expression in their eyes.
What sets me apart is my ability to bring a photograph to life on the skin with softness, precision, and depth. My approach is very personal; I spend time understanding the story behind each pet so I can honor that connection through my art.
I’m most proud of the trust people place in me. Many of my clients travel long distances or bring the memory of a beloved pet, and knowing my work becomes something meaningful and healing for them is the greatest reward.
My goal is always the same: to create a tattoo that feels alive, emotional, and timeless a piece of art that becomes part of someone’s story forever.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for anyone just starting out is to be patient with yourself and stay consistent. Progress in art especially in tattooing takes time, discipline, and a lot of practice. Don’t rush to compare your work to others; focus instead on finding your own voice and improving a little every day.
Invest in education when you can, but also learn from experience, from mistakes, and from the artists you admire. The industry can be challenging, but staying true to your vision and being willing to evolve will take you far.
Something I wish I knew earlier is that growth doesn’t happen overnight. Every small step counts. Trust your process, honor your passion, and remember that the confidence and clients will come as your work continues to improve.
