Patricia Franklin shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Patricia, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Every morning I wake up and thank God, I am grateful for life . From there I make a cup of coffee, put in creamer, and begin reading my Bible and journaling my thoughts.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Patricia Franklin and I am the face, the Founder, and the Writing Consultant behind Franklin Freelance Writing Consulting. I am also the author of “Sis, You Need Some Rest – A Mental Health Guidance Book for the Hearts of the Household.” Franklin Freelance was established five years ago to support students and business professionals alike in their writing. What makes Franklin Freelance
Writing unique is the time taken with every project, a hands on approach with each client, affordable pricing, and the quick turnaround. “Sis, You Need Some Rest” is a staple for women to have a “Sista to Sista” conversation, while learning how to navigate womanhood, motherhood, and for some wifehood. With humor, real-life events, and strategies on how to “create forms of self-care”. This book is created to meet women where they are, and to show them that they are understood and not alone.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My Grandmother used to make me feel like I could rule the world with my gifts. She used to tell me, “You’re A Writer, So Write”, “You’re A Singer So Sing.” Her pouring into me was my saving grace during my adolescence and I needed prayer and guidance. After her passing, her words still resonate and echo through me as I grow within my entrepreneurial abilities.
The relationship I have with my dad has surely shaped my entrepreneurial spirit. My dad had many of aspirations to become a multi-talented entrepreneur. His ability to see something and make it happen in his own way has shaped me to have a paralleled mindset.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self, “You are unique”. I grew up feeling misunderstood, I sang TOO loud, I TALKED too much, I did not feel as though I truly belonged in one group. That’s the beauty in God creating us to be our true selves. Growing into myself, I don’t hold back! I am quite sure my inner child (The Little Patti) would embrace the woman I am today.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
I believe there is a God that sits HIGH and looks LOW and he loves me. I protect my relationship with God at all costs because I value my relationship with him. I am outward with my faith and believe that all that I do is for the greater good of someone else. Truthfully, I am a servant-leader. I exalt what it means to lead but I never forget where I came from. I am blessed beyond measure and grateful for the path I am creating for my legacy.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
My legacy has been something that is on my mind. I grew up impoverished, although I always had my needs met I was aware of my surroundings. My children, my business, my books, my work is what I will leave when God calls me to glory. I work as hard as I do for my children, I am building an empire brick by brick so my children can have and reap the fruits of my labor. It’s not just about leaving them with a surplus of wealth. It’s about leaving them with the gems I grew up with; values, morals, dignity, respect, and above all else pillars within their communities.
