Story & Lesson Highlights with Jack. Kenway Cheng of Los Ángeles

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jack. Kenway Cheng. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Jack. Kenway, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I am currently preparing for a film that’s shooting at the end of the year. So my day right now is mostly going to the gym, cooking a lot, doing auditions, and then prepping for my character in my upcoming projects!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! This is Jack Kenway Cheng, an actor in Los Angeles. I’ve been on Canvas rebel before and I’m so excited to be coming back on!!
I am currently working on a horror film that starts production soon, and one of my films just finished post production and is being screened this week.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Growing up in China, everyone around me was always telling me about how there was no way I was gonna be stable in the United States and also have a career in acting at all. And even Acting, I was always told to only be a specific way and also change or fix myself to be a certain way that fits a certain threshold. But I am now happily living here and trying my best to have a stable career as much as possible, and the future is bright!

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
There’s so much suffering in this world, and everyone is gonna be facing their own fears and facing their own sufferings. A lot of mine has been finding the right group of people who you can trust and also mesh with. We live in such a vast and divisive world, and there’s so many different types of people and you gotta find your own people. And that’s not always easy. But the right people will always come along.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
What really matters to me the most is my family, the people I love, And doing right by them in my life. Because I truly believe that nothing you achieve or gain matters if you’re not doing right by the people who helped you alongside it.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Honing in my craft on different skills when it comes to my career, like taking martial arts and learning different methods in acting. Also taking up directing and screenwriting as well, which is such a complicated, and New realm to dive into as an actor. And making the right investments with your time and money.
