An Inspired Chat with Batuhan Şafak of Istanbul

Batuhan Şafak shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Batuhan, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: When was the last time you felt true joy?
I last felt true joy when I started taking real steps toward making my dreams come true. Seeing my long-held goals begin to take shape and witnessing the results of my efforts brought me a kind of happiness that’s hard to describe. Especially since last year, reaching the goals I set for myself one by one has not only given me a sense of accomplishment but has also strengthened my confidence. Whenever I think about this process, I feel that same excitement and joy all over again. And each day, I keep building on it and pushing myself even further—I want to surprise even myself. With every step I take, I push my limits and discover how much more I’m actually capable of achieving.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Batuhan Şafak. I’ve been creating content since 2016. I also watch films extensively and work as a film critic. In addition, I conduct interviews with directors and actors about major productions. In 2024, I played the lead role as ‘Bart Allen’ in a short film I was involved in. This year, I had the chance to visit the set of the movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I used to think that seeing the characters I watched on screen become a part of my life was almost impossible. Their worlds, stories, and presence always seemed like a distant dream to me. However, over the years, through the steps I’ve taken, the successes I’ve achieved, and the confidence I’ve gained, that dream has slowly started to turn into reality. Every new project, role, and experience shows me that I can get one step closer to those characters. Even though I sometimes still question whether this is a dream or reality, I no longer just imagine it—I live it. And perhaps, gradually, I am becoming a part of those characters, belonging to their world.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
What completely changed my perspective after experiencing major failures was realizing that I shouldn’t be afraid to take risks and try new things. Before, I hesitated to pursue certain projects or ideas because I blamed myself for the possibility of failure. But some of the failures I experienced showed me that the real loss is not trying at all. Now, failure no longer stops me; it guides me to discover new paths and keep learning. There is no giving up. Every failure is, in fact, a new lesson.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
No matter how long it takes, my greatest belief is to accomplish truly significant work on a global scale. I have been building my career with this goal in mind, and the more I focus on it, the more my excitement to create projects worldwide continues to grow. In particular, going behind the scenes of major films like those in Hollywood, being part of this thrilling process, and creating content is a huge source of motivation for me. This year, with the film Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), I took the first steps toward this goal; the experience allowed me to both develop my skills and move one step closer to my dreams. This achievement has strengthened my belief and determination even more. I now know that, no matter how long it takes, I will never give up on being patient and persistent in pursuing the goals I am focused on. Moreover, this experience became an invaluable moment for me, because that day, I had the chance to meet my childhood superhero face to face.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
“I believe I am gradually moving toward the purpose I was born for. Since a young age, I’ve been deeply fascinated by stories, characters, and the magic of cinema, and over the years, I’ve focused my career on creating, exploring, being part of this world, and, of course, gaining recognition. Of course, we all have responsibilities in life, and sometimes we need to temporarily give up certain things to focus on our careers. However, I have never given up my passion for cinema, and I never will. Every new project and experience brings me one step closer to my goals and reminds me that as long as we never abandon our passions, turning our dreams into reality is always possible.
