Today we’d like to introduce you to Lailo Lema.
Hi Lailo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began writing after creating audio stories. I loved making them but I wanted to edit my stories and make them better. Bringing my stories to paper made this a possibility. I started with an age gap story titled, ‘I’d Keep Her Bound’ which gained traction on Wattpad and ranked number one for graphic content. After this, I moved onto write ‘Kissing a Streetwalker’ a short paranormal romance story. Recently, I released ‘Off,’ a short brutal horror story, and am now working on my debut novel /Sick Punt.’
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was challenging in the beginning because I was getting the hang on social media, and I still am. But, I was looking to find my audience and where I fit. There have been a few roadblocks along the way but everything is smoothing out now. I know what I can provide and how I can close gaps in the market. Dark romance is very popular right now and I know that I have lots to contibute to the genre.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a dark fiction author who creates works that blur the lines between desire and dread. I am convinced that they are the same emotion, and I seek to explore that in my stories. I am known for my age gap stor, ‘I’d Keep Her Bound’ which ranked number one on Wattpad for graphic content. I am most proud of how far I have come and hoe I haven’t given up on my dreams. I have continued to put in the work and the results are the fruit of that. My stories are different because they mix gothic fairytales with erotic horror. It creates something weird and mysterious, almost like a grown up version of the stories we read as kids. I also use synesthesia to create viscerally descriptive stories that are addicting to read.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I want you to know that when I write a story, my ultimate goal is for them to see themselves. Yes, my stories are inspired by some of my own experiences but the highest compliment that I can receive is that my stories touched you. Not that you saw me, but yourself. This tells me I told the story well and it encourages me to keep going. Making readers laugh, cry, and feel something is my goal.
