Today we’d like to introduce you to James Deveney, Sara Beko.
Hi James Deveney, Sara Beko, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
James started his film career producing low budget independent films in his 20s, and then creating his internationally popular movie podcast, Raiders of the Lost Podcast, in 2020. Since then, the podcast has soared to a top show in TV and Film, but he has also produced and assistant directed other independent productions. His debut film ONE KLICK just released on November 16th, 2025, which he wrote and directed, Sara produced.
Sara comes from a military background, where she built the discipline and logistical skills she now brings to set. She began her film career on big studio shows in Portland and Los Angeles, working in production and quickly being pulled into stunt work. After her first stunt jobs on projects like Significant Other, The Birch, and The Offer, she was encouraged by mentors to keep going, and has since built a career as a stunt performer, coordinator, and producer. ONE KLICK is the first narrative film she has produced.
James and Sara both met on set in England working on a feature length viking film which James assistant directed and Sara acted in. When they got back to Los Angeles they decided to make ONE KLICK together.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When James moved to Los Angeles from Boston after graduating college, he didn’t know anyone in the industry or the city so it was tough finding work and getting into production at first. After feeling stuck at a production job that had a ceiling, he decided to take his life in a different direction with independent content creation, which led to creating Raiders of the Lost Podcast. The show is now one of the most listened to in TV and Film. But it took years of long days to gain traction and turn into the content powerhouse it now is. After being invited to Assistant Direct the feature in England, the road to making ONE KLICK a reality took more long days of pre-production since you often have to do all the work with a very small team and wear many hats.
And for Sara her biggest challenge has been getting people to take her seriously as she’s grown from “just” being a stunt performer into also producing and coordinating. She began coordinating very young, with the blessing of her mentors, but that meant walking onto sets as the youngest person in the department and often the only woman, asking crews to trust her judgment on safety, logistics, and budget. Juggling all those hats—performer, producer, coordinator—required her to constantly prove she wasn’t dabbling, that she could lead a team, manage risk, and still deliver clean action on camera. Over time, consistent work and a lot of unglamorous effort behind the scenes helped show people that her range is an asset, not a liability.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
James is most known for his film podcast, Raiders of the Lost Podcast. He started it in 2020 with his brother as a means to break into the industry and build an audience. By 2021, the podcast took off. It’s available on Spotify, Apple and YouTube, plus his show has a massive following across social media. James became self employed from his show and was able to start focusing on independent film production of his own.
He produced short films in 2022 and 2023, then assistant directed a viking feature in England in early, 2024. By spring 2024 James and Sara started pre-production on ONE KLICK, his debut film as a writer/director.
The podcast has also allowed James to work with major studios on marketing campaigns, most notably doing interviews with Robert Pattinson, Bong Joon-Ho, Todd Phillips, the cast of Superman, and several more exclusive gigs.
His main focus after the release of ONE KLICK is to make a feature film with Sara in 2026.
Sara is a stunt performer, coordinator, and producer working at the intersection of action design and safety. She’s known for embodying Wonder Woman in the DC Wonder Woman video game, coordinating action for Billie Eilish’s music videos, and coaching Travis Scott’s team through high-energy live performances. Her work spans fire, wire, rigging, and complex live shows, but always with a heavy focus on preparation and risk management so the creative team can push bigger ideas on camera.
What she’s most proud of, though, are the teams she builds around each project. She’s very intentional about creating a “family” environment on set—crews who look out for one another, communicate clearly, and show up because they care about the story, not just the paycheck. That culture of trust and shared passion is what she believes truly sets her and her work apart.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up Sara was definitely the weird outcast. She did both theatre and ROTC, which put a pretty big target on her back for bullying, but she loved them too much to quit. Instead, she doubled down—rising quickly through the ROTC ranks and throwing herself into every opportunity in the theatre department.
She grew up in a small wine-and-wheat town, living a true country-girl life. Being underestimated early on made her stubborn in a good way; it taught her to lead from the front, work harder than people expect, and build her own community around the things she’s passionate about, even when they aren’t the “cool” choice.
James grew up in Boston, MA, in a big family of six boys. Tied for the youngest with his twin, James spent most of his time escaping noogies, playing sports, watching movies and drawing. Movies were a way for him and his brothers to escape together, and he was shown way too many R-rated flicks at a very young age!
In high school and college James wasn’t sure what direction to go in, he was very interested in music and film. Eventually he pursued film and hasn’t looked back. After college, graduating from Westfield State University with a special award from the Communications department for making his own films, James and his brother Anthony moved to Los Angeles.
