Jupiter Jones of SGV on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jupiter Jones. Check out our conversation below.

Jupiter , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me theses days is to wake up, get some coffee and check my physical mail and email, and think about the state of the world, and how so many things are going wrong all over the planet. It’s not an easy thing for me to wake up but I must just so I can go about my day. After that I make some products or illustrations, talk to good friends then end the day with a good book or video game.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an artist through and through, and I eat, breath and sleep art. My accessories brand WitchFaeFlora specializes in accessories that are good for the mind and easy on the eye. Every piece is hand made by myself and it all is inspired by so much.
Witchy, fairy, nature, macabre, harajuku fashion, orphanhood and so much more are the inspirations behind all of the arst and crafting that I create.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I was accepeted into my dream school in Japan, and while there being able to speak to nuclear bomb survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. That experience changed me for the rest of my life and also shaped how I see war, and war weapons such as nuclear bombs, and all other weapons that are man made to kill human beings.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have been so many, many many times when I wanted to give up. As someone wth very little familial ties/community, I am always at the edge of keeping it up or just giving up. I dont have a lot of support these days so a lot of motivation and inspiration comes from me and me alone. The folks around me have no idea what it’s like to be an orphan that cant rely on anyone but themselves and because of that background I constantly deal with deciding if I should give up or not.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
Folks automatically look down on you when you come from no family. I’ve had to deal with this my whole entire life yet many people dont get it, and it’s those same people that have never experienced having close family die. Everyone assumes folks have parents, but that’s false. Not everyone does, and because of that society mistreats orphans the most and it’s rough.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
How to be self relient even when no one is clapping or has your back. How to continue to go on even when you just have yourself as a cheerleader and yourself as the last hope to be able to make it. Most folks even folks that I spend time around dont understand this unless they have experience.
