Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Marcus Peterson of Los Angeles

We recently had the chance to connect with Marcus Peterson and have shared our conversation below.

Marcus, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I truly enjoy traveling and the holistic benefits it brings—mentally, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. It’s a chance to learn, unlearn, and explore historical events and information firsthand with my own eyes. Most importantly, I love living in the moment and appreciating God’s creations around the world.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a God fearing young man from Inglewood, California. Former NFL athlete, IT Business Analyst, MBA graduate, and former Vice President of a lucrative wealth management firm. Now the Founder and CEO of ProEdge Branding, LLC. After experiencing firsthand the challenges athletes face on and off the field building sustainable brand value, leverage, and identities beyond the game, we created ProEdge Branding to fill those gaps.

We specialize in helping professional and college athletes discover, leverage, and monetize their brand value holistically while their temperature is hot. Amplify their personal brands so they can maximize financial and networking opportunities both during and after their careers. What makes us unique is our holistic approach, we don’t just focus on logos or social media presence. We dig deeper into identity, branding marketing, financial literacy, long-term strategy, and positioning to ensure our clients are prepared for life both on and off the field.

At ProEdge Branding, we’re currently working on expanding partnerships with universities, pro teams, and organizations that want to empower their athletes with real tools for success. My own journey from the NFL to entrepreneurship and fin-tech is proof that personal branding, strategy, and self-awareness can open doors. Now we are passionate about showing others how to unlock the same.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Jesus Christ, honestly I love how and it has been very intriguing as I get older, I continue to “learn to unlearn”. God places me in the right spaces and environments at the right time to help me create and discover the purpose he has for me on this earth. It’s been an up battle journey truly learning the meaning of patience and trusting in His timing. He sees and knows everything, even before we were born. Once I understood that God saw and most importantly continues to see me clearly long before I could see myself in the mirror, my life started getting more defined!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
No one has all the answers, regardless of age. We are all “in search of…” Life is about the journey, not the destination. The view from the mountaintop is breathtaking and beautiful only because we had the courage to climb it. In the end, man doesn’t have the final word…God does!

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
The matrix is real. You have to take the time and have the mental strength to truly “learn to learn how to unlearn.” The real value lies in time over money, and sometimes relationships outweigh wealth. When you look back at life from your hospital bed, and asking yourself “Did you lived the life you truly wanted or the life you were programmed to live”. When my time is up on this earth, I want people to say, “Man, Marcus made the most of his one chance at life and lived it to the fullest.”
