Kris Figueroa shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Kris, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Absolutely. I’d hire me because I bring a unique mix of creativity, discipline, and real-world experience to everything I do. I don’t just talk about hard work—I live it. Whether I’m rocking a DJ set, hosting my podcast, “The truth from the booth” , coaching athletes, or leading a team, I show up with consistency, energy, and intention. I believe in growth, accountability, and pushing myself and those around me to vibrate at a higher frequency. . I’m reliable under pressure, passionate about what I do, and focused on results that make an impact.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kris Figueroa, but most people know me as DJ Prophet — a DJ, coach, and creator who’s about elevating people through music, mindset, and movement. I’ve been in the DJ game for over 25 years, spinning everything from classic throwbacks to brand new club vibes, and I’ve built a brand that’s just as much about energy as it is about sound.
Beyond the turntables, I’m a personal trainer , podcast host and youth coach, helping others create discipline, confidence, and purpose in their own lives. My mission is simple — to inspire people to show up as their best selves, on the dance floor, in the gym, and in life.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that needs to be released is the version that constantly feels the need to prove myself. That mindset built my grind and discipline, but it’s no longer serving me. Now it’s about moving from proving to flowing — operating from peace, purpose, and alignment instead of survival.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that’s held me back most of my life is the fear of not living up to my full potential. I’ve always had big dreams and a strong drive, but sometimes that same ambition created pressure — the feeling that I had to be perfect or constantly “on.” Over time, I’ve learned that real growth comes from letting go of that fear and trusting the process. Now I focus less on perfection and more on progression, purpose, and presence.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies my industry tells itself is that clout equals talent. Too many people think followers, blue checks, or viral moments define success — but that’s surface-level. Real longevity in this game comes from connection, consistency, and character.
Another lie is that you have to fit a certain image or play a certain lane to make it. The truth is, authenticity always wins. When you stop chasing trends and start owning your sound, your style, and your vibe — that’s when you really stand out.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What pain do you resist facing directly?
The pain I resist facing daily is the weight of my own expectations. I set the bar high — as a father, a husband, a DJ, a coach — and sometimes I forget to give myself grace. I’m always pushing to be better, to do more, to evolve, but that drive can turn into pressure if I’m not mindful. The truth is, the same fire that fuels me can also burn me out if I don’t slow down and check in with myself. So I’m learning to face that pain by embracing rest, reflection, and acceptance — not just the grind.
