Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Aos.
Hi Jennifer , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m the founder of Anatomy of Style, a Los Angeles-based interior design studio dedicated to crafting beautiful, healthy, and sustainable environments. My journey into design is rooted in three passions: art, music, and environmental stewardship.
I began by studying fine art at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and also pursued music studies—two creative paths that taught me how to see space, materials, rhythm, and emotion. Before founding Anatomy of Style in 2004, I worked for over a decade in the luxury furniture, fashion, and art industries. That experience shaped my aesthetic and taught me the value of quality, craftsmanship, and storytelling through objects.
When I launched Anatomy of Style, I felt a strong pull to combine my creative background with purpose. I shifted the studio’s focus toward eco-friendly interior design, becoming a California Certified Green Business and LEED-accredited firm. That meant sourcing sustainable materials, collaborating with local artisans, and making design choices that support environmental health.
Today, the studio works on projects of all sizes—from full remodels and new builds to smaller refreshes—and we welcome a wide range of styles and budgets. I focus on elevating the aesthetic and functional appeal of homes while integrating sustainability: healthy and cruelty-free materials, energy-efficient systems, and thoughtful design that maximizes both investment and lifestyle.
Outside the studio, I continue my art practice, creating original pieces from reclaimed materials, and I remain committed to living and working in alignment with the values we bring into every project.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many small business owners, I’ve faced my share of challenges — from economic downturns to changing trends and a constantly evolving industry. There have been times when keeping the business alive and thriving required reinvention, flexibility, and an unwavering belief in my vision.
One of the ongoing challenges has been helping clients understand the value and importance of sustainable design. When I first began focusing on eco-friendly interiors, it wasn’t a common conversation. Many people weren’t aware of how much the materials in their homes impact their health and the environment. Educating clients, sourcing non-toxic products, and proving that sustainability can be both beautiful and accessible have been long-term efforts — but incredibly rewarding ones.
Working in Los Angeles also means competing in a highly creative and saturated market. It’s pushed me to continually refine my craft and find ways to stand apart — not through trends, but through authenticity, connection, and a thoughtful design process that truly serves each client’s lifestyle.
While there have been plenty of challenges along the way, I’ve learned that every obstacle ultimately leads to growth. The difficult periods shaped the resilience, empathy, and purpose that define my work today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Anatomy of Style is a Los Angeles–based interior design studio specializing in modern, sustainable design. We create spaces that are not only beautiful but also healthy and environmentally conscious. Our work spans from full remodels and new construction to smaller renovations, color consulting, and material selection.
What sets us apart is our commitment to sustainability without compromise. We integrate eco-friendly practices into every stage of design — from using non-toxic finishes and reclaimed materials to incorporating energy-efficient systems and mindful sourcing. We believe great design should enhance well-being, respect the planet, and reflect each client’s unique story.
The name Anatomy of Style has a personal origin — my last name is Aos, and over the years people often assumed it was an acronym. I decided to embrace that idea and give it meaning, turning it into Anatomy of Style. To me, it represents the deeper layers behind design — how beauty, function, and sustainability work together to form the essence, or “anatomy,” of great style.
I’m proud that our brand has remained true to its values, even as trends and times have changed. We’ve built a reputation for designing timeless, livable spaces with integrity — places that feel personal, purposeful, and artful. More than anything, I want readers to know that sustainable design isn’t a limitation; it’s an opportunity to create something more meaningful, lasting, and aligned with how we want to live.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always deeply drawn to art and music. My mom recalls finding my name signed in crayon all over the walls — everywhere she looked! I dabbled with different instruments, inspired by my grandmother, who played piano and sang every day.
I was definitely an introvert and didn’t always fit in with other children, but I was endlessly curious, adventurous, and full of energy. I loved exploring gymnastics and running, and my favorite toys, like Simon and Perfection, reflected my fascination with sound, light, color, and shapes. From a young age, I was drawn to patterns, rhythm, and the ways different elements could come together to create something beautiful — a foundation that naturally led me toward a life in art and design.
Even as a child, I was learning to observe, experiment, and connect ideas — traits that still define how I approach design, creativity, and problem-solving today
