We recently had the chance to connect with Ray Lopez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ray, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Absolutely! We’ve done more than a few events this year that had my team and I loving every moment. One that sticks out was this Emo-themed wedding we did for an amazing couple. I had been super stoked for this one all year and it did not disappoint. The energy was non-stop from start to finish and what made me smile, laugh and feel proud was seeing everyone go absolutely crazy for songs that I absolutely loved and had such a connection to myself. We created an insane mosh-pit, this full-on concert vibe, and even saw some awesome crowd-surfing… all to tracks I love. Playing tracks that I love during an event isn’t rare, but playing an entire night’s worth of them? That’s definitely one to remember.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Absolutely! My name is Ray and I run Prime Sound Entertainment, a DJ service here in Los Angeles. My team and I go all out for weddings, corporate, private and social events. We focus on creating experiences that go way beyond just playing music. Everything we do is intentional so that the flow, the vibe and the connection all feel perfectly curated to the people and the story we’re celebrating.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
That’s easy, my father and grandfather played a huge role in shaping my work ethic and how I carry myself, both as a business owner and as a man. They taught me what it means to lead by example and to always put integrity first.
My dad continues to be my ultimate role model. His insight and words have always been a guiding principal in how I run my business and how I treat my clients and their events.
I’d be remiss not to mention my grandfather and the everlasting impact he has had on my life. He passed away this August at 90 years old, and I was lucky enough to have him be a part of my everyday life growing up. Watching him run his own successful business showed me firsthand what hard work, consistency, and pride in your craft look like.
Both of these men laid the foundation for who I am today and continue to inspire me to be a better man every day.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I’d be lying if I said “no”. There have definitely been times in the past when I wondered if continuing was the right choice for my family and myself. But I’ve learned that self-doubt and worry can be your worst enemies. In moments like that, I take a step back and pray for strength and guidance whenever I feel doubt trying to sneak its way in.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
Another easy one. I used to believe that I had to be busy and booked every single weekend in order to be successful. I thought the number of events I did was a reflection of how well I was doing and how clients viewed me. Looking back, that was one of the biggest lies I ever believed.
I eventually realized that success isn’t about quantity. It’s about quality. Once I shifted my focus to creating intentional, memorable experiences, everything changed. It allowed me to highlight what makes Prime Sound Entertainment unique, strengthen my relationships with clients, and really take pride in the work we do. That mindset shift completely redefined what success means to me.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I am always at peace when I’m with my wife, doing the things we love. There’s nothing complicated about this one. Just being fully present with her without worrying about time or needing to be anywhere else is perfect.
