An Inspired Chat with Dana Devaughn of Inglewood

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dana Devaughn . Check out our conversation below.

Hi Dana , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Honestly art was always my calling when I started doing it at a young age and when I started my art business I didn’t really think about it to much and decided to just do it because it was something that I really loved to do. Art just came natural to me and the only thing I would have been afraid of is that I wasn’t using my gift that I’ve been given and not using it at my full potential.

Life is short and we are all put on this earth for a reason so why not do what we were called to do as opposed to regret and asking ourselves… why didn’t I do any of things I said I was going to do, following my dreams or goals? Like even if you fail at it at least you put yourself out there and did it cause a lot people are afraid of stepping into their calling.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
What’s Good! My name is Dana Devaughn and I’m from Los Angeles Inglewood, born and raised. I have a art business called Drippin-In-Art that I started in 2020 where I do 3D art where I different textures on my canvas paintings from hair to flowers, lights fabric, jewelry etc to bring it to life where you can engage with the paintings. I also draw and paint from Anime, cartoon and video game pieces cause I’m a huge fan of anime so I like to incorporate anime into my paintings.

95% of the time I usually paint late at night when it’s quiet and everyone is sleeping cause I’m more active and my creative juices takes over at that time lol

All I need is my headphones, a drink, my paint brushes and my canvas and I’m good to go. I be in my own world when I’m painting. That’s kind of how I meditate in a way

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
When I was younger I would say I was 10 years old (right around that age) I was on summer vacation and at the time my mom went to L.A. trade tech for going to school for fashion and I went with her one day to her school as she took me with her to class and sat on the side with her and watched her work as she was sewing clothes on the sewing machine making a piece.

I guess you can say I got my creativity from my mom side cause we are both pretty creative. I always admire her work ethic and just sitting there and watching her work as she was making pieces was really inspiring even at that young age. It was like taking your kid to work day but she was in school and it was cool to see her working in her field in what she wanted to do. My mom as always been a hard worker and as always found a way to make things happen even through the hard times.

She’s the number one person I learned about work from and she definitely had me wanting to own something of my own that I can be proud of

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t change who you are because you’re GIFED and your presence & energy is something that people is going to love to be around.

Shine on King!

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
I believe in protecting your energy at all costs. Don’t be around people that drains your energy. Yes you have people out there who are negative and will come across people like that cause everyone and everything is not always going to be good but if you have a friend that serves no purpose in your life & is always negative or has no goals Cut them off! If you have a family that is no go then love them from a distance and cut them off! Your peace and energy is more important than trying to entertain someone who doesn’t need to be in your space.

If you’re on social media and see something that doesn’t align with you or a post you don’t like then scroll past it or unfollow it. Why give all your energy into something you don’t like and/or go back and forth with someone… I understand we shouldn’t run from conflict but if you can’t solve the problem or trying talking it out with someone in a reasonable way and come back later on to resolve it then don’t waist your energy.

Often times we put are energy into someone/things that is not necessary and have to know when to throw our hands down and know when to walk away. It’s as simple as that. If you see something that’s maybe toxic or not good then don’t continue engaging in that kind of energy. The power is knowing when to step back and walk away

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
To be honest I’m pretty simple and whenever I’m creating and painting i feel like I’m at peace cause I’m in my element and no one can tell me otherwise. As soon as my pencil and paint brush touch the canvas I be so happy cause I’m doing what I love even though I’m not exactly where I want to be… YET! But I wil be and art is something that I will always love to do. I’m like a kid in a candy store whenever I buy new art supplies lol
