Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Robert Lo

Robert Lo shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Robert, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
Every customer is different. We all have different backgrounds and come from different places. Being able to interact with so many customers have helped me understand what motivates them, and how I am able to help them.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Robert Lo. In November 2014, I became the owner of Boba Tea Lounge in Covina. Our specialty is cereal shakes, which is a vanilla shake with cereal mixed into it. Our most popular shakes are the Cap N’ Crunch, Fruity Pebbles, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch shakes.

We did not have a big budget or know any famous/well known influencers when we opened our doors. We literally had a couple hundred dollars left when we started. Our first day of business, we had 3 customers, which 2 of them are our neighbors from the cigar and nail shop next door. After a couple months and consistency, word slowly spread that there is a new boba shop in town.

Currently, we are expanding our catering/fundraising department. We mainly fundraise for schools in our community, because they will become our future leaders.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents taught me from an early age about hard work. Coming from a foreign country with absolutely nothing, they had no choice but work for everything. Ever since I can remember, my parents have worked 70+ hour weeks. They recently retired, but still keeps busy by gardening, going to the gym, and helping me out anytime I ask them.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
There is never one straight direction to your goals. You will get side tracked, slowed down, but keep moving towards your goals and you will become successful.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
Successful people do not know what weekends are. They literally work and produce 7 days a week. I truly believe we were given life and put onto this planet to help as many people as we can. It does not have to be monetary or material things. Most people just want someone to talk to without being judge for what is going on in there lives.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I know I am doing something productive while giving it my all. There are days when I wake up not feeling the best, but I still give it 100%. You will have no issue doing this if you have found a purpose, set a goal, and work to your full potential.
