We recently had the chance to connect with Darla Covington and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Darla, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is getting up early and getting coffee with my dog. Then I am seeing my friendly coworkers at my new temporary training job for retail in downtown Los Angeles. When I have some free time you can find me at the mall. My top 5 favorite malls in Los Angeles are Glendale Galleria, Burbank Town Center, Century City Westfield, Culver City Westfield mall and the Beverly Center or Manhattan Beach.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Darla Covington. I have certification for interior design and home staging. I am always finding ways to perfect my skills. I love art. Such a great way to express myself in designs. I am taking classes for my real estate license, would definitely love to add to my success. Continuing to build my business, taking classes. Entrepreneur mindset is always key to have in Los Angeles. Be open to new opportunities.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’m from Saint Louis, Missouri. Always had the dream to live in Los Angeles, California. I didn’t come from a lot. My family has always thought me to be independent. Was just my mom taking care of my sister and I growing up. Definitely want to be successful in my career and make my family proud.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Definitely try to hide the struggle I’ve been through , but figured out didn’t have to hide it so much because there are many people that can relate and sometimes you need people that you can lean on. When you start talking about your struggles, your strength comes through because it’s always better to be open about it than hide it. You are more than your struggles and can prevail.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
As long as you’re learning to love yourself the rest will follow
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Living in regret, and live for today
