We’re looking forward to introducing you to Eric Daniel. Check out our conversation below.
Eric, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
In life, we must keep moving. We must continue to strive for more and always remain vigilant. This is what I remind myself of on a daily basis, because if I do not think this way complacency will be sure to follow. I will remain inspired by the people around me, the WORLD around me. I will continue to draw inspiration from those who never give up and believe in living their purpose, because if I don’t… I will fall short of my destiny and I cannot let that happen.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an artist born in Los Angeles. Art is how I think, art is who I am. I think in abstract ways that often times leads to me being misunderstood. I read books for fun; you read that right. My collection of novels, self help books and stuffy history texts along with abstract reading material have given me inspiration to start my own visual encyclopedia. At least thats how I explain it to people. “REEL TALK with E. The Artist” is an insightful interview series created by myself on Youtube covering various obscure topics such as, Code Switching, Harlem Renaissance, and the Gullah Geechee culture just to name a few. I write, produce, shoot and edit the entire show and it’s beginning to be my favorite way to express my creative side under Lvl Headz Films.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with God has served me in ways that only those who seek truth will understand. God is an abstract concept that once you go searching for, you always seem to come back to yourself. Knowledge of self has truly opened my eyes and my heart to truth and understanding which is what I am most thankful for. Never being afraid of the truth is the one thing I am afraid to lose, courage.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I believe that fear is a tool and a teacher. It allows us to realize danger and keeps us in tune with certain boundaries. Fear allows us to exercise choice. The power of choosing whether to do something or to not do something based on fear allows for us to reflect. Reflection is good, in my opinion. Having that chance to collect data and make choices based on fear is something that responsible people do. Fear is like a warning for us to realize that the next choice you make may alter your future. People with no fear have no conscience and I believe in cultivating your conscience. Without fear there is no chance for the power of choice. The power of choosing your next step. Being fearless takes the chance of choosing to be courageous away. Without fear, there is no courage. Without hate, there is no love. Duality is apart of our daily lives.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is the real me, because the people are my mirror. I get to see who I am based on how people treat me.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
In my life I have come to realize that I cannot change the world until I change myself. I have to be the change that I want to see in the world and if only one person is inspired by something I have done then it was not in vain. Like Tupac said (and I paraphrase) “I will be the spark in the mind of someone that will change the world”.
