We recently had the chance to connect with Anthony James and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Any time I seem to sit down in front of a piano, it feels like a time out from everything happening around me. Can’t really make sense of why that is, but I’m grateful for those moments and that special connection.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Anthony James, and I’m a recording artist from Anaheim.
I’m an advocate and embodiment of taking the long way around, with no shortcuts. Long-term successes in a world of instant gratification, something you can build on.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My parents – they’ve both always humbly worked hard, without necessity of recognition. Just because its who they are, and because they wanted to provide, take care of me and my brother.
My dad working after hours to scout, recruit, trade film, etc. My mom in and out of jobs as a graphic artist, regularly working 10-12 hours, and always still finding a way to make it to all of me and brother’s games.
Can’t thank them enough for everything they exemplified. I’m nowhere near the man I am without that.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I have my days like anyone else. The delusional confidence wears off from time to time. Some days the mountain looks bigger than others for sure, but I never allow myself to fully entertain the thought of giving up. I know this is for me.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I hope so! I’m always in an understanding that how the public views me is out of my control, but I do my best to be as transparently honest with who I am as possible.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Years ago, somebody said to me “I think you’ve left every person you met, better than when you met them”. And to this day, that is my favorite compliment I’ve ever received.
All I really hope for is that. That people thought I was a good human being, and that I positively impacted those who I was in contact with during my time here. Whether it be through music or any other way paths could have crossed. That’s most important to me.
