An Inspired Chat with Justin Magallanez of Diamond Bar

We recently had the chance to connect with Justin Magallanez and have shared our conversation below.

Justin, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
For the past 2 years I’ve been playing Golf every Saturday with my 5 soon to be 6 year old son, my dad, and my two cousins. We developed and encourage a family bonding moment amongst one another. Especially to share and have a memory I get to create with my son that will forever be a bond that will never be broken but only encourage for us to keep going and creating. Witnessing him enjoying the sport and always excited to play is what I always wanted.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Justin Magallanez. Born in West Covina California, raised in East Los Angeles California. I’ve been involved in the industry for 23 years, where my own company brand has been in business for 18 years. I started at a very young age in order to provide for my family where the word “Hustle” was created and instilled in my brain.

I first started my business out of my two car garage where I was able to imagine, create, and produce a whole structured program for athletes at every level. I then was able to appreciate the value of a dollar when it came to budgeting my own bills and spending on my own business when purchasing old or new equipment, including creating my own equipment that was very budget friendly.

After 6 years, I later decided to rent out of a local gym facility for a period of time and later on I opened my first building back in 2015 to where I’m at my 2nd location currently since 2021.

Throughout my tenure I’ve been very blessed to work for several Professional Organizations like the NFL, MLB, and AFL. Including 4 junior colleges, 7 local high schools all as a head strength and conditioning specialist. This hard work has also allowed to be involved for fortune 500 companies like Jordan Brand, Nike, Adidas, and several companies that has valued my work and determination to providing the best service towards athletes and also my craft.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world knew me I was a football player, where I was blessed to play at a high school, college, and professional level. When I decided to “hang up my cleats” I became a hard working, very motivated and inspired individual father and entrepreneur that was in full “GRIND” mode in order to provide for my family.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The one and only thing I fear still this day is FAILURE. Failing to provide. Failure of being broke again. Most importantly failing on not being the best version of myself to being the best dad I can be for my sons

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes my public version of me is the real me, I personally believe so. What you see is what you get. I am a firm believer on helping others grow, succeed, and motivate while at the same time not “sugar-coating” my personal beliefs just only because of my past experiences with the industry. I am not one to lie to the individual

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The one that I only hope that people would tell is my thirst for knowledge and making I provide the best service for the athletes. But the most important thing is building a business and a brand for my sons to continue that legacy. Everything I do is for sons and family
