Story & Lesson Highlights with Al Myers of Los Angeles

We recently had the chance to connect with Al Myers and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Al, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I listen to a lot of music . Specifically Jazz….. I like to sit in my music room , put on a record , close my eyes and get lost in the music

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Al Myers and I am a woodworker based in Los Angeles , California. I make tables, shelving units, DJ Booths, cabinets, chairs, or just about anything from wood or wood related products.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
I would say my grandfather taught me the most about work. He was a jazz guitarist and loved his profession. He practiced daily about 4 hours, and also taught guitar lessons on the side. His dedication to his craft inspired me to give my all to what I love.
His example showed me that if you “job your love, not love your job” it will never be work !

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Youre resilient….keep going

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes….. I dont believe in being fake. It takes more work to be something youre not than to be your authentic self.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel peace when I am in the shop creating. So much so , that at times, I dont eat. I become so involved in my work that I completely throw everything I can into them until finished.
