Good morning Ashley, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Everyone sees the glamour and fun from the outside. Most people don’t understand that to be in the entertainment industry is to be the ultimate entrepreneur. You are your own marketing team, your own sales team, and you have to continue to educate yourself to have an advantage in the field. The mystique of the entertainment world is to make it seem effortless.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ashley LaRae and I am a Producer and Actress. I am the founder of LR Entertainment, a production company that services many independent projects all over the Los Angeles area. My experience as an actress has refined my approach to producing. I am able to offer a creative approach, while also working within a client’s budget. Working with talent on set is my favorite part, and I pride myself on making the working and creative environment one that people love to be a part of.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My grandmother was the woman in my life that saw the true me, even before I could see it within myself. Every time I stepped into uncharted territory, like cheer try-outs or passing a test, she would look me deep in the eyes and say “I already know you made it”. Those moments still resinate with me as I move into spaces that I have never been before.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
Failure is inevitable. It’s your perception of failure that determines who you become. Recently, I experienced one of the hardest moments in my career. Afterwards, I realized I am never going to give up the pursuits of my heart. So instead I decided to journal where I started taking wrong turns, so that I could create a road map to my success. Each failure is just a closed road that didn’t work out.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
To me, freedom is a non-negotiable. The freedom to choose, the freedom to pursue, the freedom to create. That is why I am in the field that I am in. Having the ability to live independently, is the most important value to me. Freedom is closely aligned with the quality of life that one can make for themselves, and I would protect that at all costs.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I personally feel like you should always work as if no one is watching. So often I see people who stop short of their dreams or success because they did not get the validation that they are looking for, praise that they deserve. I have always known that people won’t stand on the sidelines and cheer you on as you are walking on your early path. So by becoming my own motivator, I could always give my best, even if no one sees it, because ultimately the success will speak for itself.
