We’re looking forward to introducing you to dominique deed. Check out our conversation below.
dominique , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
setting boundaries & standing on them.
Prior I have always been such a people pleaser, always worried about “keeping the peace” and not keeping my peace. I have always set my feelings aside for those around me and as of lately I have felt so much more peace standing on what I believe. I have had more peace in focusing on my son and myself. Cutting people off that don’t add to my life, as a mom & a single mom this is hard because we rely on those around us and have to for the sake of help, but lately I have made choices & plan to continue that will benefit my son and I. I cannot please everyone else because I am giving too much of myself to those who choose not to reciprocate.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, currently the brand I am working on is myself.
As women we give so much to the people around us because we love hard. I have began to focus solely on my family – my son & I. Working out so that way I am healthy – look good & feel better. Eating better, taking care of myself, doing things for myself. I have taken myself on more solo dates recently than I ever have before & I enjoy every minute.
Take time for yourself, do the things that make you happy. I have made more content, which is another way for me to do something for myself & gives me a way to share with others the truths I am learning. Take that trip, do things to give back to yourself. It’s an investment.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Family is only blood. I have cried because of the support of my inner circle, especially with going through the past abusive relationship I went through. I never felt alone because of those friends who carried me when I couldn’t walk. Who listened to every cry, every complaint even if they had heard it before. Allowing me to vent & never judging.
I have learned now in my new decade of life more than ever than family is not always your blood & blood will not always be your biggest supporters.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
the pain in suffering will help you grow. You learn so much about yourself in suffering, you learn your strength, resilience & what are the ways to push yourself on your own. You will learn who is truly in your corner & who is truly there to love on you and pull you through the ugly.
There are so many more life changing lessons in suffering.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
yes. this is the real & the raw. I post about the struggles about being a single mother and the emotional moments that comes along with this. The daily highs and daily lows. The ways that work for me to work through them one day at a time.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I changed their life in some way shape or form, that they learned something from me. That they knew they could call me if they needed something & I was always there.
I hope that people look back on their relationship with me and have positive things to say. That I worked hard in all I did.
That my relationship with them brought something to their life, not too anything away.
