Today we’d like to introduce you to Maxine.
Hi Maxine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began studying piano and voice at the age of seven, which led me to my first love—musical theater. Performing on stage became my passion as it taught me confidence and self-expression; but it was during a move to a new city that I discovered songwriting. Overwhelmed with emotion, I wrote my first song, and music quickly became my outlet and safe space.
In high school, I fell in love with music production. I began collaborating with other artists, writing and producing songs, and performing at local coffee shops. This passion carried me to Berklee College of Music, where I earned my Bachelor of Music in Songwriting and Music Production & Engineering. At Berklee, I immersed myself in the creative process—writing, recording, and performing with a full band. I released original music, played larger venues, and spent countless hours in the studio with friends, turning stories and feelings into songs.
My music is rooted in storytelling—capturing the complexities of relationships and personal experiences with the hope of inspiring, supporting, and entertaining. After graduating, I moved to Los Angeles to continue pursuing my career. Here, I’ve found my creative community of producers and writers, and together we’ve been shaping my upcoming EP.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a musician is a rollercoaster of a journey full of highs and lows. Some days, I feel like I’ve written the best song of my life, while other days, I struggle to finish a single verse. As an independent artist, working as a team of one comes with challenges—but it also brings an immense sense of pride. Creating DIY music videos, releasing my own songs, and building my vision from the ground up are experiences I deeply value.
Of course, there are moments when the weight of it all makes me feel like giving up. The music industry can feel overwhelming, and at times it seems like the odds are stacked against me. But music is my passion and my purpose—it’s the place where I feel I am most myself. When I am on stage or songwriting, I forget about everything and I am just “Maxine,” and that feeling makes every obstacle worthwhile.
I’ve learned to embrace both the ups and the downs, because the hard moments give meaning to the joyful ones. Some of my biggest struggles have been navigating the constant need for social media content and balancing that with my anxiety. It’s not always easy, but I try to find joy in it. Another challenge has been finding the right collaborators—people who truly understand my vision and share the same passion for creating something meaningful. Once I found my team, everything shifted. I gained not only creative partners but also a support system that allows me to thrive as both an artist and a person.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At my core, I am a storyteller who uses my voice as the primary instrument of expression. My songwriting is rooted in strong pop melodies and a distinct pop vocal style. Every song I create is drawn from true experiences—my own story—which allows me to deliver each lyric with genuine emotion. I often write and record while I’m experiencing those feelings, so that the authenticity and vulnerability of the music shine through.
What sets me apart is my openness and willingness to share exactly who I am through my art. My lyrics are deeply personal, and I take pride in letting the world see my truest self. This honesty translates powerfully in my live performances, where I bring high energy and joy to my dance-pop songs and encourage audiences to sing and dance along; while also moving listeners with my slower, more emotional tracks. Whether it’s creating a fun, electric atmosphere or leaving audiences with chills, my goal is always to connect.
Pop, dance-pop, and EDM are my strengths, but no matter the genre, I strive to make sure every word I sing comes from the heart. One of the things I’m most proud of is the way my music resonates with listeners. When people reach out to share how a song has touched them, I feel that I’ve succeeded. For example, after releasing my latest single Silhouette, I received messages of love and gratitude from listeners around the world, which made my day. Another proud milestone was my collaboration with The Breakbomb Project on Gasoline, which has reached over 117,000 streams.
Ultimately, I desire to stay true to myself and my vision as an artist, create music with friends, and not let outside voices define what I should sound like. My hope is to inspire others to embrace their authenticity, because I believe everyone has something unique and valuable to share.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The music industry is constantly evolving as new technology becomes more prominent and available. While AI may play a role in people’s music creation, I don’t believe it will ever replace the uniqueness of human artistry: the emotional depth and originality that come from lived experience can’t be replicated. Also, the connection we have to a person creating the music will always win over technology creating something. Humans have a desire to connect to each other, not a computer. Social media will most likely continue to grow as a driving force in artist discovery and promotion, while streaming may adapt into a more sustainable source of income for artists and songwriters, given its central role in how music is released and consumed today. I also see live shows incorporating more advanced technology to create immersive experiences, and expect to see even more blending of genres in music creation.
