Marco, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I start with a mix of yoga, resistance training, deep breathing, sunlight, coffee, and then a protein-packed breakfast. It’s the start of every one of my days, even if I’m traveling, I still aim to repeat this protocol as best as I’m able!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a celebrity haircolor artist, hairstylist, educator, salon owner, and consultant. I’m a leading Haircolor Authority throughout the world, as I teach on all the stages of the top beauty shows worldwide. My love for haircolor began at my family’s chain of East Coast salons. Early in my career, I became a top Educator at one of the world’s leading Italian haircolor companies. I was then sought out to be the National Haircolor Educator for an esteemed Los Angeles-based color company.
Today, I execute standing-room-only, sold-out performances on the stages of the International Beauty Shows. I also appear on TV as a haircolor makeover expert on FOX, Hallmark and KTLA.
I opened my premier Studio on Robertson Blvd. in the heart of the trendy, ultrachic West Hollywood Design District, since 2005. I also have served on the board of the West Hollywood Design District since that time.
My salon is the premier retailer of the Marco® Collagen Color Guard® HairCare System, the first and only complete collagen-based system developed for color- and chemically-treated hair. Since my background in haircare manufacturing began, I’m super passionate about developing product. My signature product is my Marco Anti Frizz Leave In Conditioner. Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Both of my parents encouraged me in every possible way. My mom and dad both could see the potential in me and they fostered this spirit in me in every possible way.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I’d say that my work with relationships of all kinds – work, home, family, friends – has taught me more than any kind of success ever could. It’s learning how to relate and communicate with others – even in difficult trying times – that has taught me more than anything.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. Over the years I have aimed to be authentic. And honest. And now I speak from so many years of experience. So there’s no need to present someone different than who I truly am.
