An Inspired Chat with Jermaine Demetrius of Hollywood

Jermaine Demetrius shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Jermaine , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve always been a workaholic, pouring my heart into my craft. But this year, I promised myself something different—slowing down, reconnecting, and truly living. I’ve been soaking up time with friends, saying yes to travel (so much travel!), and falling in love with hiking. It’s been refreshing, freeing, and exactly what I needed

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jermaine Demetrius — I’m an artist and entrepreneur with over five years in business. What began as selling paintings just for fun quickly turned into something much bigger.

When the pandemic hit, I noticed people were eager to invest in unique, high-value art. That’s when I created a product that truly set me apart: scented candles inspired by fine art. At the time, no one else was making anything like them, and they immediately stood out.

Since launching my candle line, doors have opened in incredible ways — from television appearances to celebrity events and so much more.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Growing up in the church, I was taught from an early age to be kind — sometimes overly kind — to be relatable, sweet, warm, and above all, humble. I’m grateful for those lessons, but as I’ve grown, I’ve also learned the importance of speaking up for yourself, stepping out from the background, and boldly owning who you are and what you do.

Because at the end of the day, no one will go harder for you than you.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self it would be to block out the noise and just do you…You’re going to be exactly who you think you’ll be.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
To an extent, yes. As humans we’re very complex and there’s multiple layers of an individual. I take pride in my brand being bold, innovative, confident, and sexy.

Outside of social media, I’m extremely laid-back, I like to go with the flow and I’m occasionally shy.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Something that often brings me joy, especially in those moments of doubt… is that I’m doing exactly what I’ve always wanted to do. Unfortunately, not many people can say that.

From a very young age, I wanted to be an artist and that’s exactly what I’m doing, and I’ve been able to make a living off of it for years.
