We recently had the chance to connect with Adrian Watkins and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Adrian, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I’m chasing new sounds and ways to approach music and art itself. If I stopped, I would probably be terrible to be around and unmotivated to even live life anymore.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Adrian Watkins. I’m a singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist. My music is a blend of Americana and R&B and at the moment I’m trying to raise money through my indiegogo campaign for my new record. What’s special about this record is that I’m going to be featuring a lot of people I admire and respect as artists/individuals and hire them to make some new music.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My mom taught me how to work hard, but also how consistency and attention to detail can be just as important in anything you do.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Be present with the people who love you.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes! I’m passionate, caring, empathetic and everything I see and feel pours out whether it’s positive or negative. You’ll know what I’m thinking and feeling pretty quickly.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m not doing what I was born to do being an artist and I’m not doing what I was told to do, but I am doing what I want to do and in a way I was born to be free so, in a round about and long winded way, if I feel free, than I’m doing what I was born to do.
