An Inspired Chat with Daria Mazur

We recently had the chance to connect with Daria Mazur and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Daria , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I believe that in order to be successful, we need all three. However, integrity is the most important one – it’s something that actually lets us look in the mirror and say ‘I did the right thing’. You can gain the whole world, but if you lose your integrity, you lose yourself—and that’s the greatest loss of all.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I have been an actress for over 15 years. I started when I was a teenager (still living in Poland) and I got a guest star role in a TV show. After that, I signed with an agency and got lots of other roles in Polish TV shows. When I turned 21, I moved to Los Angeles to keep pursuing my acting career. I graduated from Stella Adler Academy of Acting. Since then, I have lived here and worked on building my career here.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Definitely the moment I moved to the US. I moved here by myself, I didn’t know a single person in the whole country and the day I moved here, was also the day I had seen America for the first time. I took quite a leap of faith! After I moved to LA, I met tons of other actors and incredible friends – that quickly taught me how united and similar we all are. Now I have lots of friends from all walks of life, different religions, backgrounds, looks, political views, jobs, ideas… yet we are still the same. It’s been very eye-opening and absolutely beautiful.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Ask any actor this question – they will all give you the same response – ‘Yes!’. Hahaha! Acting is probably the riskiest job in the world. You never know when your next job is going to be. The phone might stop ringing any minute. It’s a lot of pressure, and it requires enormous amounts of patience and dedication. But it’s definitely worth it.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That aging is going to give you less jobs. That the less attractive you are, the harder it is going to be for you as an actor. I completely disagree with it – there are lots of opportunities for older actors and if you don’t look like other ‘perfect’ actors, that’s what makes you special.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am fortunate enough to do what I was born to do. I’ve always known that being an enterteiner is my destiny. I think if you do what you’re supposed to do, you will definitely know that. I am also fortunate enough to have incredible, supportive parents who encouraged me to work very hard and to pursue my goals, and not to just do what’s safe.
