An Inspired Chat with Blair Woods of Los Angeles

We recently had the chance to connect with Blair Woods and have shared our conversation below.

Blair, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Right now I am honestly busier than I’ve ever been, but I am so grateful. I am in sessions every week, on set every other week, and really just working on building the music up more than ever before.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Blair Woods, a recording artist/ songwriter, actress, and cat mom. I am known for my “Minnie Riperton” style whistle register that mirrors the likes of Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande- 2 of my biggest inspirations.

I come from a small town in Florida and my grandparents and my parents are the reason for my love for music. I was raised around musicians and music enthusiasts all my life. I learned piano with my grandma and mom at about 4 years and again with my choir teacher at 11 years. My grandfather is the first reason I ever wanted to be a performer full time (then Hannah Montana and Ariana Grande in my later years). He was an artist as well and was trying to get signed before life happened, so I am trying to complete his dream for the both of us.

I am an ever-evolving artist as we all are, I have went through many phases and currently I am in my “feminine energy”/ “divine being” era if you will, I am learning what colors in my wardrobe really compliment me and I am learning what my aesthetic really is- not what social media says it should be.

I am currently working on more music and getting my current EP, “could be us, but” out there so I can start doing shows again. My goal is to do more shows and tour to be able to see everyone even if they aren’t directly in Los Angeles.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My fans, absolutely my fans. This includes of course my family who are fans by proxy, but every single person who has heard me sing, seen my lyrics, related to them, streamed the songs, and bought the tickets or merch- those humans have lifted me up long before I truly knew what magic I held. I am so thankful to my first producer, Nick for taking a chance on me, and for my current team Craig, LP, Kyle, everyone really sees my vision and supports it so heavily and I cannot thank them enough for believing in me.
I know the OG fans from all my live shows and streams will carry me all the way, even when we welcome in more bbies to the family.
This of course is only the beginning we have SO much more to do and see.
But I’m always grateful and humbled by how many people see the projects and take them in with welcoming arms. It’s so beautiful.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Oh every other day when I haven’t slept, eaten, or drank enough water. Anytime a small inconvenience happens it feels like the end of the world, I AM a Taurus after all. My parents can attest I am a drama queen some days, but honestly that’s what scheduled pauses, reflection, and great friends are for. Keeping yourself grounded and remembering why you started this in the first place. Also there’s no backup option, this is my life and this is always going to be the only thing I ever do. Music and the arts are all I have. It always finds a way when it’s what you’re meant to be doing. Trust in the universe/ God/ whoever. Give it to them. Your angels have your back, I know mine do.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
This is a loaded question, but I can answer this only because I’ve interacted with them a few times, but Ariana Grande. She is insanely detail oriented and remembers basically every fan’s name or user name. The two times I have briefly interacted with her in real life (or on a face time ahaha), she knew who I was by user name and my government name. I hope she’ll know who “Blair” is someday soon, because I would love to collaborate with her as she is insanely good at what she does. Regardless, the public should know she really pays attention and takes the time to make everyone feel special and I have learned so much that I have incorporated into my artistry from her and how she operates.
She’s not only a musical inspiration but who I aspire to be as a person in part. Of course I want to be my own self, but certain details that she pays attention to have helped me become a better artist in watching her grow. She’s so kind, attentive, and connected. I think we should all aspire to be the higher part of ourselves and I see she really is there for herself. Even when she might not feel that way, she presents herself well. I think she handles everything with grace, humor, and love, and we can all learn that from her.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What false labels are you still carrying?
That I’m not good enough or amateur at what I do or that I’m the bad guy just because I set boundaries. I am really intelligent and kind and I am a very giving friend. I am doing my best to be softer with myself because everyone is allowed to have boundaries and not feel sorry about setting them for peace of mind.
I don’t mean anything unreasonable either, some people take that word or therapy words and run with them and it ruins the impact and real reasoning behind using them. I mean if I am low on energy and my cup isn’t full, I am allowed to focus on myself and build that back up. I love pouring into people, but I can’t do that when I am drained, and learning how to balance that is so important. The world needs a lot of love right now, but we don’t have to over-do it or over-work ourselves to please others. Take care of yourself first and then do your best to take care of others because the world needs it.
