LEE of Los Feliz on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with LEE and have shared our conversation below.

Hi LEE, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What battle are you avoiding?
The battle in challenging my current perception of my own physical and creative capabilities in life.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Zhan Yung Lee and I am an artist releasing music under the moniker LEE. I am currently working on a collection of songs inspired by the disconnect one experiences in youth about the world we are told vs the reality of daily life growing up, the expectations from your environment in that transitional period between boyhood and adulthood as an immigrant from a working class family, and non-alignment of self.

I am currently based in Sydney, Australia to complete this project and recently have really gotten into visiting pinball arcades all around the city.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
earliest memories of feeling powerful were whenever I created interesting stories and games for my siblings growing up and teaching them the rules of the games and as we continued to grow the game together

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
you are incredible for being persistent in showing vulnerability and love to your family despite all the times this sincerity was used against you and used to hurt you

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
yes, it is all the known parts of myself on full display and similarly all the unknown parts of myself that I am learning everyday shared with anyone I cross paths with – the misalignment, my projections, expectations of self – nobody should ever feel the need to hide the full spectrum of who they are

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What light inside you have you been dimming?
I have been dimming the belief in my ability to connect with others emotionally through my art ; simultaneously I use this ‘short sightedness’ as a teacher to move forward everyday through action
